Roma store 19 May 2015: Prices lift for most classes

NLRS sale commentary:

Yarding 6911  Change -495

Yarding numbers remained similar to the previous sale. A mix of fair to good quality steers were consigned, while an increased number of good quality heifers were penned. Extra restocker buyers were in attendance and all the usual feedlot buyers were operating. Prices improved for most classes of steers and heifers.

Light weight yearling steers hit 296c and averaged 260c, up 9c, while slightly heavier sorts topped at 266c and averaged 239c/kg. Feedlot buyers were active on suitable medium weight yearling steers which sold to 282c and averaged 246c, up 8c/kg. Restockers paid up to 266c and averaged 256c, up 13c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 258c and averaged 249c, up 15c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feed reached 236c and averaged between 219c and 227c/kg for good quality sorts. Those returning to the paddock hit 242c and averaged 226c, up 17c/kg. Those to processors sold to 224c and averaged 195c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 236c and averaged 220c, up 16c/kg. Good quality lines to processors reached 230c and averaged 215c, up 8c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 230c and averaged 221c, up 7c/kg.

Grown steers to feed sold to 216c and averaged between 196c and 207c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows reached 191c and averaged 182c, while medium weight 4 score cows hit 215c and averaged 198c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows topped at 215c and averaged 209c/kg. Cows and calves sold to $1,000/unit.

Roma heavy feeders hit 284c/kg

A total of 9816 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 279c/kg and averaged 256c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 290c/kg and averaged 257c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 285c/kg and averaged 255c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 284c/kg and averaged 250c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 284c/kg and averaging 252c/kg.

Jimmy Ford, Eden Hope, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 285c/kg for 338kg to return $964/head.

Livistona Grazing, Palm Vista, Taroom, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 284c for 448kg to return $1274. The Droughtmaster heifers sold to 237c for 345kg to return $820.

Peter Smith, Paronella, Roma, sold Murray Grey-cross steers to 282c for 474kg to return $1337.

Douglas Cattle Co, Verniew, Mitchell, sold a Charolais-cross steer to 279c for 470kg to return $1312.

Ogg & Co, Ayrshire Downs, Winton, sold Santa steers to 279c for 415kg to return $1161.

R & S Hindle, Beaconsfield, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 279c for 220kg to return $616.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 245c/kg and averaged 209c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 248c/kg and averaged 207c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 246c/kg and averaged 208c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 250c/kg and averaged 213c/kg.

T & J Sorensen, Westerdale, Injune, sold EU Charolais heifers to 248c for 317kg to return $788.

KC Chandler, Glentulloch, Injune, sold EU Droughtmaster-cross heifers to 244c for 321kg to return $784.

RD Fawckner, Bonnie Downs, Winton, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 242c for 260kg to return $630.

Preston Partnership, Nullawurt, Roma, sold Angus-cross heifers to 227c for 324kg to return $736.

Deane Grazing Co, Malboona, Corfield, sold Droughtmaster heifers to 225c for 490kg to return $1104.

Cows over 500kg sold to 205c/kg and averaged 191c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 196c/kg and averaged 169c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 184c/kg and averaged 133c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $990/unit.
