The number of cattle yarded increased this week, as parts of western Queensland dry out from recent rainfall. Large consignments of cattle were drawn from North West areas, mainly Winton.

The bigger store sale attracted more restocker buyers to the market and all the usual feedlot buyers were operating. Prices remained solid for most categories of yearling steers, while heifers continued to receive plenty of competition from feedlot and restocker buyers. The few store cows penned sold to 243c/kg.

Early weaned steer calves sold to 454c and averaged 446c, while heifer calves made to 412c and averaged 404c/kg. Light weight yearling steers earned to 442c and averaged 405c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed reached 378c and averaged 367c, and those to restocker buyers sold to 410c and averaged 394c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers hit 378c and averaged between 363c and 367c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returned to the paddock at 424c and most sold between 360c and 401c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 370c and averaged 351c/kg. Store cows sold to 243c and averaged 237c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $1,820/unit.

Roma calves hit 454c/kg

A total of 8600 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 442c/kg and averaged 423c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 440c/kg and averaged 412c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 410c/kg and averaged 380c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 382c/kg and averaged 345c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 364c/kg and averaging 338c/kg.

Farmleigh Pastoral Company, Farmleigh, Mitchell, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 442c/kg for 187kg to return $827/head.

R & D Allwood, Lyndock, Surat, sold Cross bred steers to 440c for 235kg to return $1035. The Cross bred heifers sold to 416c for 228kg to return $951.

R & J Partington, Gunadale, Roma, sold Limousin-cross steers to 438c for 233kg to return $1025.

K Bredhauer, Rosevale, Wyandra, sold Charolais-cross steers to 436c for 201kg to return $879. The Droughtmaster-cross heifers sold to 410c for 176kg to return $724.

B & K Packer, Deepwater, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 431c for 258kg to return $1116. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 420c for 135kg to return $567.

Graham Moloney, Kandarra Valley, Wallumbilla, sold Angus-cross steers to 428c for 245kg to return $1051.

A & E Forster, Belfield Station, Winton, sold Charbray steers to 416c for 274kg to return $1143.

Pink Hills Pastoral Co, llanrheidol, Winton, sold Brahman steers to 416c for 249kg to return $1039.

D & A Nowland, Boondoon, Chareville, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 415c for 268kg to return $1113.

Mt Cornish Grazing, Norbert Park, Barcaldine, sold Santa steers to 412c for 278kg to return $1147.

Bailey Properties, Paradise Downs, Blackall, sold Charolais steers to 410c for 255kg to return $1047.

RTS Cattel Company, Duaringa, sold Santa-cross steers to 403c for 294kg to return $1186.

Nugent Pastoral Co, Bulburram, Tambo, sold Santa steers to 364c for 496kg to return $1808.

Jenny Ford, Lewah, Roma, sold Santa-cross steers to 358c for 488kg to return $1748.

Belfast Investments, Violet Station, Winton, sold Brahman steers to 354c for 453kg to return $1604.

J Kidd, Ourdel, Windorah, sold Charolais-cross steers to 354c for 430kg to return $1523.

K & M Mansfeilds, Bampi, Roma, sold Santa-cross steers to 353c for 418kg to return $1474.

Tim O’Brien, Tyrone, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 330c for 484kg to return $1598.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 360c/kg and averaged 309c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 386c/kg and averaged 337c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 416c/kg and averaged 376c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 430c/kg and averaged 385c/kg.

Sutton Beef, Bundabar, Glenmorgan, sold Santa-cross heifers to 400c for 269kg to return $1079.

Cows over 500kg sold to 285c/kg and averaged 243c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 268c/kg and averaged 237c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 310c/kg and averaged 228c/kg.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 454c/kg and averaged 353c/kg.
