Yarding 6400, Change -500

Good numbers of cattle were yarded again this week. Only limited numbers of restocker buyers were present and feedlot buyers were more selective when purchasing suitable cattle. Overall, it was a very mixed quality yarding. All classes of steers were cheaper with medium and heavy weight yearling steers 8c to 12c/kg cheaper. Plainer, secondary lines of heavy weight yearling steers to feed dropped 21c/kg on average. Light and medium weight yearling heifers were significantly cheaper with falls of 18c to 30c/kg in places. More cows and calves were penned than usual and sold to $585 and averaged $425/unit.Light weight yearling steers sold to 174c and averaged 165c, down 6c, while D muscled lines averaged 142c, down 10c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 174c and averaged 167c, down 8c, while plainer lines averaged 141c, down 9c/kg. Those returning to the paddock made to 169c and averaged 163c, down 10c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 175c and averaged 166c, down 12c, while large numbers of D muscled sorts reached 152c and averaged 141c, down 21c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot buyers topped at 115c and averaged 111c, down 30c/kg. Those to restockers earned to 140c and averaged 128c, down 1c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 133c and averaged 130c, down 18c/kg. The store conditioned 2 score cows sold to 102c and averaged 75c/kg. 

 

Weekly Roma Store Sale press report:

A total of 6400 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 174c/kg and averaged 148c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 174c/kg and averaged 151c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 172c/kg and averaged 146c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 174c/kg and averaged 149c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 175c/kg and averaging 148c/kg.

David Mason, Stanley Park, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 175c/kg for 406kg to return $710/head.

Gwenbrook Farms, Gwenbrook, Roma, sold Santa-cross steers to 174c for 370kg to return $644.

Bangor Cattle Co, Bangor, Mungallala, sold Charolais-cross steers to 174c for 268kg to return $468. 

Cameron Fraser Grazing, Culburnie, Barcaldine, sold Santa steers to 172c for 297kg to return $511.

I Jackson, Elavirem, Injune, sold Angus-cross steers to 170c for 426kg to return $724.

Noel Weaver, Cotswold, Mitchell, sold a Droughtmaster-cross steer to 170c for 410kg to return $697.

J & B Russell, Willara, Augathella, sold Santa-cross steers to 170c for 354kg to return $602.

R & M Taylor, Fairlands, Wallumbilla, sold Charolais-cross steers to 168c for 356kg to return $598.

D & K Noon, Mitchell, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 164c for 457kg to return $750.

Stagmount Grazing Co, Stagmount, Aramac, sold Santa-cross steers to 164c for 281kg to return $461. The Santa heifers sold to 134c for 237kg to return $318. 

V, K, & A Hafemeister, Oakleigh, Injune, sold Brangus-cross steers to 162c for 350kg to return $567.

C Bischoff, Woodlawn, Injune, sold an Angus-cross steer to 150c for 460kg to return $690.

Freshwater Partnership, Overflow, Mitchell, sold Droughtmaster steers to 144c for 280kg to return $404. 

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 137c/kg and averaged 105c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 140c/kg and averaged 119c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 140c/kg and averaged 118c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 136c/kg and averaged 119c/kg.

S & R Cormack, Perola Park, Wallumbilla, sold Droughtmaster-cross heifers to 137c for 355kg to return $487.

K & J Jamieson, Grafton Terrace, Roma, sold Santa-cross heifers to 130c for 240kg to return $312.

Cows over 500kg sold to 111c/kg and averaged 104c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at 110c/kg and averaged 85c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 89c/kg and averaged 67c/kg.

More cows and calves were penned than usual and sold to $585/unit and averaged $425.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 146c/kg and average 104c/kg.
