Roma Store 17 May 2016: Big jump in numbers

Weekly NLRS market commentary:

Yarding 7064 Change 4564

Yarding numbers rose dramatically, with large consignments coming from across Western Queensland and the Northern Territory. Overall, the quality of store cattle greatly improved and prices lifted across all classes of steers and heifers.

Good numbers of northern NSW and Queensland restocker buyer attended the sale and light weight yearling steers sold to 369c/kg. Meanwhile, heavy weight yearling steers met very strong feedlot buyer competition and made to 317c/kg. Extra export processor buyer competition helped lift 3 and 4 score cow prices. Cows and calves sold to $1,280/unit.

Light weight yearling steers mostly sold between 320c and 346c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 339c and averaged 322c, while those returning to the paddock hit 328c and averaged 310c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers sold to 317c and averaged 298c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers earned to 310c and mostly sold between 272c and 294c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 295c and averaged 277c/kg. Grown steers to feed sold around 271c, while grown heifers to feed made to 236c/kg. Medium weight store cows sold to 202c and averaged 196c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows reached 226c and averaged 213c, while heavy weight 4 score cows earned to 239c and averaged 231c/kg.

Roma light steers hit 369c/kg

A total of 7064 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 360c/kg and averaged 334c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 369c/kg and averaged 326c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 350c/kg and averaged 314c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 326c/kg and averaged 304c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 317c/kg and averaging 287c/kg.

Rosehearty Grazing Co, Koonong Downs, Muckadilla, sold Santa steers to 369c/kg for 241kg to return $889/head.

Ryan Brothers, Carlow Station, Blackall, sold Santa-cross steers to 356c for 275kg to return $979.

Merinovale Pastoral Co, Merinovale, Jackson, sold Angus steers to 352c for 220kg to return $774.

R & M Hay, Kismet, Jericho, sold Santa steers to 350c for 284kg to return $996. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 294c for 236kg to return $696.

A & R Scott, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 341c for 208kg to return $710. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 296c for 301kg to return $893.

R, M, & F Miller, North Kooringa, Roma, sold EU Angus-cross steers to 339c for 346kg to return $1175.

G & L Proud, Mulloona, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 334c for 299kg to return $999.

G & D Burey, Torwood, Mungallala, sold Santa-cross steers to 326c for 355kg to return $1159.

Nixon Pastoral Co, Wyoming, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 296c for 493kg to return $1462.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 297c/kg and averaged 275c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 302c/kg and averaged 267c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 294c/kg and averaged 262c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 310c/kg and averaged 277c/kg.

Henbury Cattle Co, Henbury Station, Alice Springs, sold Angus heifers to 310c for 184kg to return $571.

The Joyce Family, Balcarris, Taroom, sold Santa heifers to 302c for 340kg to return $1027.

N & K Taylor, Aqualoo, St George, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 292c for 217kg to return $633.

Cows over 500kg sold to 238c/kg and averaged 217c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 239c/kg and averaged 205c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 219c/kg and averaged 193c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $1280 and averaged $1035/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 329c/kg and averaged 285c/kg.
