NLRS market commentary:

Yarding 8400 Change 2400

Yarding numbers jumped 30% and the quality was fair to plain across the store cattle. More well-conditioned grown steers were penned, while light weight yearling steers were 8c/kg cheaper. The majority were drawn from the south west areas of Queensland, with several large consignments from central west regions of the State.

Heavy weight yearling heifers found strong feedlot buyer competition. Light weight male calves sold to 410c and averaged 374c, down 11c, while early weaned heifers made to 346c and averaged 326c, down 23c/kg. Light weight yearling steers earned to 392c and averaged between 334c and 359c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 341c and averaged 328c, up 1c, and those returning to the paddock hit 338c and averaged 326c, down 15c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 341c and averaged 319c, down 7c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers reached 364c and averaged between 297c and 323c to restocker and feedlot buyers. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 315c and averaged 304c, down 4c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 319c and averaged 295c, up 12c/kg. Grown steers made to 318c and averaged between 295c and 303c/kg.Plain conditioned store cows reached 206c and averaged 195c, while forward store cows hit 229c and averaged 218c/kg. Mixed aged Brahman cows, with 1 to 5 month old Charbray calves at foot, sold to $1640 and across the board cows and calves, averaged $1240/unit.

Roma heavy heifers hit 319c/kg to feed

 

A total of 8400 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 400c/kg and averaged 358c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 392c/kg and averaged 344c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 362c/kg and averaged 326c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 341c/kg and averaged 319c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 326c/kg and averaging 307c/kg.

Glen Valley Pastoral Co, Glen Valley, Jundah, sold Santa steers to 400c/kg for 193kg to return $775/head. The Santa heifers sold to 322c for 293kg to return $944.

P & M Brennan, For Far, Mitchell, sold Angus-cross steers to 382c for 185kg to return $709.

Brett & Sandy Southern, Neabul Downs, St George, sold Angus-cross steers to 376c for 216kg to return $813.

Deracroft, Maxvale Station, Jundah, sold Charolais-cross steers to 376c for 182kg to return $687.

Munnaweena Partnership, Myall, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 366c for 278kg to return $1019. The Angus-cross heifers sold to 318c for 304kg to return $969.

Malabar Holdings, Arlington, Mitchell, sold Charolais-cross steers to 366c for 252kg to return $924.

Whitton Cattle Co, Myrtleville, Injune, sold Charolais-cross steers to 341c for 358kg to return $1224. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 315c for 362kg to return $1142.

The Packer family, Kurrajong, Roma, sold Charbray-cross steers to 340c for 365kg to return $1242.

R & K Thorne, Homeleigh, Mitchell, sold Santa-cross steers to 339c for 280kg to return $952. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 318c for 246kg to return $782.

Bangor Cattle Co, Mulga Dam, Mungallala, sold Charbray-cross steers sold to 326c for 382kg to return $1247.

The York family, Piccadilly, Wallumbilla, sold Simbrah-cross steers to 324c for 536kg to return $1739.

Cindy Warrian, Bonus, Injune, sold Charbray-cross steers to 316c for 540kg to return $1707.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 319c/kg and averaged 278c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 322c/kg and averaged 298c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 326c/kg and averaged 299c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 364c/kg and averaged 323c/kg.

R, M, & F Miller, North Kooringa, Roma, sold Angus-cross heifers to 346c for 202kg to return $701.

Cows over 500kg sold to 240c/kg and averaged 227c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 254c/kg and averaged 209c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 223c/kg and averaged 181c/kg.

G & C White, Marionvale, Surat, sold mixed aged Brahman cows with 1-to-5-month-old Charbray calves at foot for $1640/unit. Across the board cows and calves averaged $1240/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 410c/kg and averaged 304c/kg.
