Roma store 11 Sep 2018: Stronger demand in large female yarding

An offering of 5,642 head was up only slightly from last week at the Roma Store Sale. Cattle were drawn for a wide supply area and quality was varied. The usual panel of buyers were present. The largest portion of cattle penned were females. Steers experienced only quality related price changes. Medium and heavy weight yearling heifers improved in price while cows sold to a stronger demand.

Light weight yearling steers sold to 290.2c with most in the low 280c/kg range. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 276c and made to 282.2c while heavy weights over 400kg made to 288.2c to average 280c/kg. The largest sample of light weight yearling heifers averaged 231c and made to 242.2c/kg. A fair supply of medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 235c and made to 250c/kg. A small selection of heavy weight yearling heifers to slaughter averaged 251c/kg.

The medium weight 2 score cows mostly sold around 194c and the best of the medium weights made to 244.2c to average 238c/kg. Heavy cows reached 246.2c to average close to 240c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 282c/kg and averaged 251c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 290c/kg and averaged 271c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 288c/kg and averaged 263c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 282c/kg and averaged 274c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 288c/kg and averaging 263c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $1,150/unit.

BM & ND Bauer, Arlington, Augathella sold Angus cross steers to 284c/kg, reaching a top of $897 to average $752.

WH Cameron Family Trust, Kheri Station, McKinlay sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 282c/kg, reaching a top of $1,633 to average $920.
Galloway Cattle Co sold Brangus cross steers to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $1,507 to average $1,158.

Rosemount Grazing P/L, Rosemount Station, Barcaldine sold Charolais cross cows to 246c/kg, reaching a top of $1,741 to average $960.
Rosehearty Grazing, Highbury, Aramac sold Santa cows to 221c/kg, reaching a top of $1,052 to average $819. The Santa cows and calves sold to $1,125 / unit.
