Beef Central, 11/06/2014

Weekly NLRS sale commentary:

Yarding 6100, Change 714

A good number of local cattle were yarded, while mixed quality consignments were also penned from across western parts of  Queensland including Winton, Barcaldine, Quilpie, and Wyandra. Good quality light weight yearling steers sold well, while medium weight steers reached 190c/kg, but secondary lines were discounted in places. Solid feedlot buyer competition helped prices improve for light and medium weight yearling heifers, but the mixed quality of those to southern processors and restockers resulted in prices 3c/kg cheaper on average. Cows and calves sold to $585/unit.

Light weight yearling steers sold to 204c/kg and averaged 180c, while plainer lines averaged 155c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feedlot buyers hit 190c and averaged 178c, down 11c/kg, while those returning to the paddock topped at 192c and averaged 190c, up 5c/kg for better quality sorts. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 187c and averaged 183c, unchanged in price. Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot buyers topped at 164c and averaged 145c, up 3c/kg, while those to processors reached 148c and averaged 138c, down 3c/kg.
