Roma store 1 Nov 2016: Buyers more selective

Yarding numbers only rose slightly from the previous sale.

The quality of store cattle penned was plain and all the usual buyers were operating.

Feedlot buyers continued to be more selective when purchasing, while increased buyer interest in plain steers lifted D muscled light weight steer prices.

Light and medium weight yearling heifers were cheaper, while cows struggled to maintain last week’s price averages.

Light weight yearling steers hit 424c and averaged between 340c and 376c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed reached 356c and averaged 343c, while those returning to the paddock sold to 378c and averaged 357c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 356c and averaged 339c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers made to 410c and averaged between 337c and 370c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 338c and averaged 309c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers sold to 332c and averaged 297c/kg. Grown steers to feed sold between 302c and 319c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows made between 228c and 244c/kg.

Heavy weight 4 score cows to processors reached 247c/kg. Cows and calves sold to $1,650/unit.

 

Roma cows and calves hit $1650/unit

A total of 5900 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 422c/kg and averaged 403c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 424c/kg and averaged 383c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 408c/kg and averaged 357c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 368c/kg and averaged 327c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 342c/kg and averaging 303c/kg.

Dapco Farming Co, Merino Downs, Surat, sold Charolais-cross steers to 422c/kg for 214kg to return $906/head.

Simmac Pastoral Co, Mt Maria, Morven, sold Angus-cross steers to 418c for 258kg to return $1079.

Scott Keating, Sylea Lea, Mitchell, sold Santa-cross steers to 414c for 263kg to return $1090. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 384c for 257kg to return $989.

Murray & Kylie Hudson, Avoca, Mitchell, sold Cross bred steers to 410c for 244kg to return $1004.

R & M Sinnamon, Charmana, Jackson, sold Santa-cross steers to 408c for 300kg to return $1228.

Glenorie Grazing Co, Glenorie, Morven, sold Santa-cross steers to 402c for 236kg to return $949.

T & J Sorensen, Westerdale, Injune, sold Hereford-cross steers to 378c for 333kg to return $1261.

Killarney Park Grazing, Killarney Park, Tambo, sold Santa steers to 368c for 377kg to return $1389.

Glenrowan Grazing Co, Glenrowan, Morven, sold Braford-cross steers to 353c for 381kg to return $1348.

R & J Peak, Peak Downs, Roma, sold Simmental-cross steers to 340c for 399kg to return $1358.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 332c/kg and averaged 288c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 360c/kg and averaged 315c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 410c/kg and averaged 350c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 410c/kg and averaged 380c/kg.

Currawarra Pastoral Co, Currawarra, Mitchell, sold Santa-cross heifers to 410c for 251kg to return $1030.

Stinson Pastoral Co, Roma, sold Santa-cross heifers to 360c for 289kg to return $1040.

G & G Burey, Springhill, Amby, sold Hereford heifers to 358c for 272kg to return $976.

Douglas Cattle Co, Verniew, Mitchell, sold Santa-cross heifers to 384c for 259kg to return $997.

Cows over 500kg sold to 247c/kg and averaged 234c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 261c/kg and averaged 218c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 247c/kg and averaged 190c/kg.

Cows and calves topped at $1650/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 368c/kg and averaged 310c/kg.
