LARGE lines of PTIC females again featured in listings on AuctionsPlus on Friday, however after a bumper turnover in February, overall numbers offered fell 26 percent last week to 8964 head.
Prices for most lines remained steady despite the drier weather.
Boosting last week’s PTIC female offering was Tuesday’s Team Te Mania commercial female sale. Numbers were also impacted by the first Autumn Weaner held on Friday, which produced some solid results in southern states in a catalogue of 1500 head.
Northern sale highlights on Friday included a line of 264 heavy grown Angus and Palgrove Charolais x Angus steers pictured above from Graham Gall’s Dawson River Pastoral Co, Roma, QLD, 460kg at 22-26 months, sold in four lots from 326c to 328c/kg to clear $1520.
Another large line of 261 Santa x Hereford and Charolais x Santa yearling steers out of Talwood, QLD, 10-17 months at 332kg, sold for a solid 346c/kg or $1150 per head, with the lighter end (277kg at 10-15 months) making $1030.
A line of 80 station-mated Droughtmaster type cast for age cows, in mostly store condition averaging 402kg from Richmond, North Queensland made $1015, while a line of Wagyu cross steers from Taroom, QLD, weighing 396kg which sold for 580c/kglw or $2297 per head.
NSW results included a pen of 46 17-20 month old Angus unjoined feeder heifers 386kg from Glen Innes, NSW which sold for 326c/kg or $1260 a head. Also from Glen Innes, 389 kg, Hereford feeder steers made 348c/$1380, while 93 Senepol cross yearling steers 12-16 months at 345kg from Tenterfield made 327.3c/kg.
Two mobs totalling 100 head of Santa cows and calves, cows 6-14 years, 483kg and 496 kg, made $1500 and $1520, while 42 PTIC Angus heifers from Black Mountain on the northern NSW tablelands made $1480.
First Autumn Weaner Sale to 380c for black heifers
Friday’s first AuctionsPlus Autumn Weaner Sale pulled close to 1500 cattle from NSW and Victoria and there were some strong results recorded.
Highlights included a line of 208 kg 6-7 month old Angus weaned heifers from Oberon, NSW making 378c/kg or $785. Their slightly younger, 5-6 month old sisters (146 kg) also sold well and made 380c/kg or $555.
A line of 339 kg, 7-9 month old Charolais cross Shorthorn heifers from Barraba, NSW made 345c/kg or $1170, while the same vendor sold 346kg, 7-9 month old Shorthorn steers for 346c/kg or $1200.
In a breakdown of Friday’s young cattle sales, by weight range:
- Steers less than 250kg made 362c to 439c/kg live, averaging 400c, which was steady
from last week; heifers in the same weight range sold from 305c to 380c, averaging 350c, a slight rise of 6c from last week. - Steers 250-300kg sold from 320c to 408c/kg to average 360c, up 7c on last
week, while heifers where limited in numbers and ranged from 282-319c to average 310c. - Steers 300-350kg ranged from 327c to 348c, averaging 340c, which was steady from last week, while heifers in this weight range sold from 300-345c, to average 310c, up 7c.
- Steers over 350kg were high in numbers, making 273c to 580c (Wagyu) to average 350c, up 25c on last week, while heifers sold in a wide range from 285-327c to average 314c, up 14c.
In female lines offered on Friday, PTIC first-calvers sold in a range from $1300 to $1790, to average $1560.
The top price went to two lots of 16-18 month old PTIC Angus Heifers offered by the Swanbrook Angus Stud from Inverell, NSW. A large offering of proven breeder cows represented the bulk of PTIC females on Friday, boosted by the Team Te Mania Commercial female sale.
Proven breeders ranged from $1200 to $1930 to average $1475. The top priced line were 687 kg, 5-8 year old Angus cows coming from the Te Mania stud, Mansfield, VIC. This line was PTIC to quality Te Mania bulls.
In Friday’s weekly Eastern States sale, the top priced PTIC proven breeders made $1555 and were 530 kg, 4-year-old Angus cows, PTIC to Limousin bull from Millicent, SA.
In cow and calf sales, the majority sold this week were proven breeders with, prices ranging from $1350 to $2120 to average $1818. Top price was a tidy line of 424
kg, 3 year old Santa cows with Simbrah calves at foot averaging 160 kg from Roma, QLD.
First calvers numbers were back, however there was an impressive line of 515 kg, Te Mania blood Angus cows from Drysdale, VIC which made $2220.
