CATTLE listings on Elders and Nutrien’s AuctionsPlus online marketing platform jumped 31pc to 9821 head last week, while clearance slipped two percentage points to 46pc.
Young cattle drove the increase in listings as breeding stock numbers remained the same as last week. Heifers saw their best week in a long time with all five weight categories posting gains.
Nine of the ten young cattle weight categories for steers and heifers recorded increases in price.
Some rain in Victoria and southern NSW this week along with fast approaching spring breeding programs may have contributed to the stronger demand.
Among the steer catalogue, steers 200-280kg registered a larger offering of 1382 head and averaged 308c/kg, up 4c from the previous last week for a 68pc clearance. Prices ranged from 250-336c.
From Aramac, western QLD, 152 Charolais cross steers 6-10 months averaging 270kg returned $845/head, or 313c/kg.
Steers 280-330kg registered a larger offering of 1736 head and averaged 303c/kg – up 1c from last week for a 45pc clearance. Prices ranged from 219-357c.
From Pirron Yallock, NSW 107 Angus steers 10-12 months averaging 298kg returned $990 or 332c/kg.
Heifers 200-280kg registered a larger offering of 1066 head and averaged 225c/kg – up 2c from last week for a 59pc clearance. Prices ranged from 198-299c and averaged 225c. From Longreach, QLD 154 Santa heifers 7-14 months averaging 268kg returned $610 or 228c/kg.
Heifers 280-330kg registered a larger offering of 1138 head and averaged 229c – up 13c from last week for a 45pc clearance. Prices ranged from 197-301c. From Spring Ridge, NSW 23 Angus/Angus heifers 12-15 months averaging 314kg returned $690 or 220c/kg.

PTIC cows registered a larger offering of 545 head and averaged $1274 – up $374 from last week for a 31pc clearance. From Isisford, QLD two even lines of 77 Droughtmaster cows six years old averaging 577kg returned $1310.
