CATTLE numbers rose by six percent on Elders’ and Nutrien’s AuctionPlus online platform last week, where 12,403 head were offered. The larger offering was met with mixed competition as clearance fell to 64pc.
There were some big slides recorded in c/kg value among most heifer categories and heavier steers.
Steers 330-400kg averaged 18c/kg cheaper, at 374c/kg, with an offering of 1467 head producing a 57pc clearance. Heavy feeders +400kg lost 8c to average 356c, but cleared only 49pc of an offering of almost 500 head.
Steers 280-330kg registered a larger offering of 1268 head and averaged 399c/kg up 4c from last week. Prices ranged from 323-460c/kg and the offering of 1268 head cleared 74pc.
Among larger lines sold on Friday, 170 Braford type weaned steers 223kg at 6-10 months from Winton, northwest Queensland made 448c/kg or $1000/head, while 444 mostly Ultrablack x Brahman weaned steers 245kg at 10-12 months offered by Consolidated Pastoral Co Isis Downs, Isisford, central western Queensland made 340c/kg or $835/head.
Heifers showed a strong downwards trend across most weight ranges.
Light heifers 200-280kg lost 27c/kg to average 292c, clearing 54pc of an offering of 1200 head. Heavier descriptions 330-400kg lost 10c/kg to average 322c, clearing 72pc of an offering of 1600. A small offering of heavy heifers +400kg lost 29c/kg to average 299c.
A line of 47 Angus heifers 9-14 months averaging 328kg from Boggabri, NSW returned $1005/head, or 306c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Goondiwindi, QLD.
Among breeding females, PTIC heifers registered a larger offering of 396 head and averaged $1620/head, up $40 from last week.
Non station mated heifers and calves presented a larger offering of 223 head and averaged $2411/pair for a clearance of 81pc, up 5pc from last week. In contrast, an offering of 845 NSM cows and calves lost $235 on average compared with last week, to average $2001/pair, clearing 72pc.
From Wongwibinda, NSW 20 Angus cows 3-4 years averaging 498kg returned $2280 and will travel to a buyer near Walcha, NSW.
A line of 17 Angus cows 2.5 to 3.5 years averaging 488kg from Coolac, NSW returned $1510/head and will travel to a buyer in Lake Cargelligo, NSW.
