Yarding 4740 Change 1763
Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area including consignments from South Australia. The yarding consisted of a good supply of yearlings, along with increased numbers from all categories. The yarding of young cattle consisted of several runs of yearling steers and heifers suitable for feeders and backgrounders being predominantly well-bred cattle in 2 score condition.
Competition was strong with feeder and restocker yearling steers holding firm. The medium weight feeder steers sold from 315c to a top of 331c/kg. Heavy yearling feeder steers reached 316c/kg. A good supply of light restocker yearling steers sold to 332c, to average 346c/kg. Feeder heifers held firm with medium weights topping at 310c to average 300c/kg. There were a number of very light steers and heifers, mainly from the west that ranged from 308c to 424c/kg.
The yarding of export cattle consisted of some good runs of well finished heavy steers and bullocks along with heavy and medium weight cows. Bullocks and steers sold firm to slightly dearer topping at 305c, to average 300c/kg. However, heavy feeder steers eased, to average 290c/kg. Grown heifers met strong demand selling to a top of 282c/kg. The cow market was 6c dearer for the heavy weights and firm to 3c/kg dearer for the medium weights. Medium weight 3 score cows averaged 227c, while the heavy 4 score cows sold to a top of 246c/kg.

A draft of 463 feeder steers, Brangus/Hereford/Brahman/Droughtmaster cross from Quilpie created a lot of interest from the buyer’s panel today. Steers averaged 326.7c at 301kg, to bring average $985. The yarding was made up of cattle from Dirranbandi, Goondiwindi, Augathella, Meandarra, Murgon, Proston as well as the Dalby area. A very strong market from start to finish.
