Yarding 4840 Change 492

Numbers lifted by close to 500 head and buyer attendance across all classes was good and most were operating in a generally dearer market.

A lift in the quality of the light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock resulted in average prices improving by 7c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed gained 4c to 7c/kg while heavy weights to feed experienced very little change. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers and backgrounders sold to a firm market while the medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 10c/kg dearer. A relatively small sample of bullocks averaged 4c/kg better. A large number of cows were penned and sold to a market 7c to 10c/kg dearer.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 436.2c with mixed sex calves averaging 379c/kg. Vealer heifers averaged close to 340c and made to 348.2c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 385c with sales to 408.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 341c and made to 358.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed mostly sold around 327c with sales to 335.2c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers were well supplied and made to 352.2c to average 337c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 326c and made to 334.2c and heavy weights to feed averaged 295c and made to 322.2c/kg.

Bullocks made to 314.2c to average 303c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 218c and made to 225.2c while the best of the medium weights made to 249.2c/kg. A large supply of good heavy cows made to 255.2c in pen lots with most around 245c/kg. Heavy bulls were dearer at an average of 266c with sales to 278.2c/kg.

Grant Daniel Long’s Joe Lehman said it was a quality yarding of cattle.

“Some very good lines of cows, weaner steers and heifers. A very solid market right through. Plenty of competition from processors, feedlotters and restockers”.
