Dalby sale 26 July 2017: Cheaper trend but stronger in patches

Beef Central, 27/07/2017

Video report from Ray White Eastern Rural’s Peter Bird

Yarding 4440 Change -275

Cattle numbers experienced a small decline of 275 head and the trend of young cattle in the largest numbers continued.

A fair group of buyers was present, however some of the exporters of the previous week were absent.

Most classes of feed and export slaughter lines sold to a cheaper market. Restockers were very selective on the lightweight yearling steers with only well-bred lines in demand while the remainder averaged 10c/kg less.

However, a lift in the quality of the light weight yearling heifers to restockers went against this trend to average 8c/kg better.

Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 3c to 7c/kg cheaper. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 8c/kg easier. Heavy grown steers and bullocks sold from 13c to 17c/kg cheaper. Good heavy cows lost 12c/kg while plain condition cows sold close to the previous week’s level.

Steer calves made to 408.2c with a good sample of mixed sex calves selling for 362c/kg. A large selection of light weight yearling steers returned to the paddock for an average of 351c with isolated sales to 400.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 327c and made to 338.2c and lesser quality lines sold for 298c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 323.2c to average 310c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers were well supplied to average 306c with some well-bred lines reaching 330.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 296c and made to 320c/kg.

Heavy grown steers and bullocks averaged close to 280c with sales to 286.2c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 208c and the 3 scores 215c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 230c on a couple of occasions, to average 224c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 272.2c/kg.

Grant Daniel Long report:

Light weight yearling heifers made up to 330c, heavy cows to 223c and bullocks to 230c. Yearling heifers and steers were 3-7c less than last week and light steer calves made up to 408c with medium to light steers holding firm. Most of the processors were in good attendance and we had some good lines of cattle starting to come off oats.
