Dalby sale 15 Dec 2021: Strong finish in last sale of year

Beef Central, 16/12/2021

Yarding 4905 Change 1087

The last sale before the three week break in the selling program resulted in numbers increasing by 1,087 head to 4,905 at Dalby.

Cattle were drawn from a wide area with one consignment of 528 head from New South Wales, a small sample from South Australia, and 834 head from far Western Queensland.

Export buyer attendance was not as good as the previous week, however the regular feed and trade operators plus a large line up of local and interstate restockers were in attendance and very active in the market.

Yearling steers to restockers and feed sold to a dearer trend for the quality penned.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock improved in price by 26c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 19c to 36c/kg better. However heavy weight yearling heifers to feed were considerably dearer.

Cows experienced a mixed trend with restocker lines in demand, while the export processor classes sold to a cheaper trend.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 842c with a very large number averaging 728c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged from 624c to 654c with sales to 674c, with some in the same weight range returning to the paddock at 724c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 660c with a large sample averaging 592c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg made to 770c to average 724c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg were well supplied and made to 750c to average 656c/kg.

Yearling heifers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 616c to 629c and made to 670c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling heifers in good condition sold to feeder operators at a top of 622c to average 566c/kg. A couple of bullocks sold to the local meat trade at 492c/kg. Medium weight plain condition cows returning to the paddock averaged 364c and made to 390.2c/kg. The best of the heavy weight cows to processors made to 390c/kg. Very light weight bulls made to 848c to average 727c/kg.

A large number of cows and calves were penned and sold to a record level of $4200/unit.
