Beef Central, 17/05/2018

Video market report from Ray White Eastern Rural’s Wyatt Wrigley

Yarding 4815 Change 1114

Numbers increased by 30% and cattle continued to be drawn from a wide area with 770 from New South Wales and 860 head from far Western Queensland with the remainder from the local areas. Prices tended to turn around in places with a number of classes improving in price. A wide variation in the quality of the very large number light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock restricted a lift in prices. However medium weight yearling steers to feed sold to very solid demand and the heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 4c/kg better. Light weight yearling heifers experienced a dearer trend with improvements of 4c to 5c and the medium weights gained up to 10c/kg. Virtually no bullocks were penned and a small number of heavy grown steers averaged 4c/kg better. Cows were well supplied and lifted in price by 2c to 8c and up to 11c/kg on restocker lines.

A large number of steer calves averaged 292c and made to 312.2c with lesser quality mixed sex calves close to 240c/kg. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to the occasional 309.2c with a very large selection averaging 277c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 269c with some to 285c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 270c and made to 280c/kg. The largest numbers of light weight yearling heifers sold around 238c with some to 258.2c and poor quality lines averaged from 208c to 215c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 252c/kg. A large sample to restockers averaged 262c after a top of 270.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to the trade averaged 242c and made to 254.2c/kg.

The better end of the heavy grown steers averaged 260c and made to 263.2c/kg. Medium weight plain condition cows to restockers averaged 183c and some heavy weight PTIC made to 214.2c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows to processors averaged 188c and the best of the medium weights made to 212.2c to average 201c/kg. A large sample of good heavy cows sold around 206c with some to 215.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 242.2c with one bull making 260c/kg.
