Dalby Sale 12 Dec 2018: Forecast boosts restocker enthusiasm

Beef Central, 13/12/2018

Yarding 5143 Change -1876

The supply of stock reduced by 1,876 head to 5,143 and include in the line up were 1,153 head from far western Queensland, plus 197 from South Australia and 200 from NSW, with the balance from the usual local supply area.

A large panel of export and feeder buyers was present and operating, along with an increased number of restocker buyers. The forecast of some rain lifted restocker enthusiasm and light weight yearling steers and heifers returning to the paddock improved in price by 30c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 8c to 12c/kg dearer. A better quality line up of heavy weight yearling steers to feed lifted average prices by 17c/kg, although half of this improvement could be attributed to the lift in the quality penned. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 12c to 18c/kg better. A relatively small sample of heavy grown steers to export processors averaged 4c/kg dearer. Cows generally sold to a firm market with some small improvements in places.

A large supply of light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 309c and made to 331.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 300c and made to 326.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to 316.2c, with most close to 312c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers were well supplied and the largest numbers averaged 255c, with sales to 290.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 298.2c, with the largest samples making from 275c to 280c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to the trade averaged 275c/kg. Heavy grown steers to export processors averaged 300c and made to 306.2c/kg.

A few bullocks made to 311.2c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 190c and made to 198.2c/kg. Most good heavy cows sold close to 229c, with an isolated sale to 241.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 246.2c/kg.

Grant Daniel Long report

There was a smaller yarding in Dalby today reduced by 1876 compared to last week.  With the weather forecast looking promising, markets were somewhat stronger on last week. A better quality yarding also improved the market today. Jack Biddle and Tim O’Dwyer, GDL Dalby

GDL is having one more feeder and store sale for 2018 next Wednesday December 19 before the Christmas break.  The first Dalby Sale for 2019 will be January 16.
