Dalby sale 31 July 2019: Interstate restockers chase heifers

A large sample of cows were penned, along with a fair selection of heavy grown steers and bullocks, and a mixed quality line-up of young cattle.

Buyer attendance was generally good, however some of the southern operators of the previous week were absent from the buying panel.

Heifer calves returning to the paddock improved in price by 24c/kg, pushed on by interstate restockers.

Light weight yearling steers also returning to the paddock averaged 12c/kg better. Medium weight yearling steers to feed sold to strong demand for the quality penned, and heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 7c/kg dearer.

Light and medium weight yearling heifers experienced only quality related price changes, and heavy weights received very little change in price. Heavy grown steers to export slaughter averaged 3c/kg better, and the younger end of the bullocks were also in demand.

Cows to restockers sold to solid competition, however the plain condition classes to export slaughter averaged 8c to 10c/kg less, and good heavy cows received very little change in price.

Steer calves to restockers made to 283.2c to average 246c, and heifer calves made to 240.2c with most around 203c/kg. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 290.2c with a large selection averaging 270c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 294c and made to 309.2c, with a handful to the trade reaching 323.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 330.2c on a few occasions, with the largest numbers at 304c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers made to the occasional 253.2c to average 221c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 245c, and the better lines averaged 269c and made to 285c/kg. The best of the heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 286.2c to average 276c, and some to the trade made to 295c/kg. Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 325.2c to average 311c, and bullocks also made to 325.2c with most around 291c/kg.

Medium weight cows to restockers averaged 197c and made to 214.2c/kg. Medium weight 2 scores to processors averaged 180c and made to 198.2c/kg.

A large selection of good heavy cows mostly sold around 247c with the occasional sale to 260.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 280c/kg.
