Dalby sale 23 Feb 2022: Bullish market for 3703

The supply of cattle remained the same as last week at Dalby with 3,703 penned. Cattle were drawn from far Western Queensland, NSW and the local supply area.

All the regular export processors, feeder buyers and restockers were in attendance and operating in a very bullish market, with all classes receiving strong competition, and any price variations were only quality related.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers averaged 818c and made to 860c/kg. Yearling steers in the 200 to 280kg range to background sold to 810c and averaged 713c/kg. Yearling steers over 280kg returning to the paddock made to 696c to average 669c/kg. Yearling steers over 330kg to background sold to 660c and averaged 646c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 598c and made to 663c/kg.

Yearling heifers to restockers made 778c to average 672c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed for the domestic market made to 633c to average 614c/kg. Yearling heifers over 330kg returning to the paddock sold to 644c and averaged 626c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 527c and made to 576c, with the wholesale meat trade making 550c/kg.

Several pens in the same weight range sold to 628c as replacement heifers.

Grown steers to feed made 554c and averaged 482c/kg. Heavy grown steers to processors averaged 466c and made to 473c/kg.

Grown heifers to feed sold to 552c and averaged 485c/kg. Full mouth heavy bullocks to processors made to 454c/kg.

A good sample of heavy cows to export processors made to 413c and averaged 407c/kg. Heavy bulls averaged 352c and made to 378c/kg.

Very strong market this week with 3703 head yarded in Dalby. A lot of heavy cattle in the yards this week with processors back in full swing, along with the usual buyers present. GDL celebrated it’s 25th anniversary this week and Noel Grant returned to sell three pens of bullocks. The top of which came back at $3,653.70. Next week GDL are selling 2nd.
