Dalby sale 8 June 2022: Wet conditions curtail yarding

Beef Central, 09/06/2022

Yarding 2165 Change  -1238

The return to wet conditions across the supply area reduced the number of stock at Dalby by 1,238 head to 2,165. Consignments of 415 head from far Western Queensland and a small sample from New South Wales helped to make up the smaller yarding. Buyer attendance was generally good and most were active in the market. Light weight yearling steers and heifers returning to the paddock were noticeably dearer with improvements of 14c to 20c/kg.

This trend followed through to the yearling steers to feed with gains of 20c to 30c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed received strong support and heavy weights averaged 20c/kg dearer. A very small selection of bullocks averaged 6c/kg less. Medium weight plain condition cows to restockers regained the previous weeks losses, and cows to export processors struggle to maintain the reduced prices of the previous week.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top of 810c with a good sample averaging 715c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 595c to 676c with sales to 730c, with some to restockers reaching 756c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to the occasional 610c a fair sample averaging 536c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 650c with a large sample averaging 609c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged from 535c to 540c with sales to 575c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 552c to average 490c/kg.

A small selection of bullocks to export processors made to 431c to average 423c/kg. Medium weight plain condition cows returning to the paddock made to 356c to average 344c/kg. A line of heavy weight PTIC cows to restockers made to 418c/kg. Good heavy weight cows to export processors made to 381c to average 369c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 356c/kg. Cows and calves made to $3,100/unit. PTIC heifers sold open auction made to $1,825/head.
