Australian cattle exports have recorded the strongest start to a year in four years with 60,251 cattle exported in April bringing total volumes for 2024 to date to just over 207,400 head.
April exports were only 1 percent below the rolling-five year average for the month.
The majority of those exports (51,941) were shipped to Indonesia, representing a 36pc increase on the five-year average of exports to the major market for the month of April.
Shipments to Vietnam in April totalled 8290, 3pc above the five-year rolling April average.
The only other destination to receive Australian cattle in April was Malaysia with 290 head.
Exports were highest in April from Townsville (31,081 head) followed by Darwin (21,924), Broome (3388), Fremantle (2638) and Portland (1200).
