Scroll down for Australia’s 14 day rainfall outlook

Most of the continent received little to no rain over the past week, with rainfall limited to southwest Western Australia, southeast South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania; as well as the tropical east coast and southern inland Queensland.

Past seven days: At the start of the week, a trough moved across southern Queensland and produced showers and thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall in southern Queensland and northeast New South Wales.

Throughout the week, high pressure cells dominated over southern Australia, restricting the passage of cold fronts to southern coastlines and Tasmania. Light to moderate falls were reported in the southwest of Western Australia, southeast South Australia, Victoria, southern New South Wales, and much of Tasmania.

In the latter part of the week, a high pressure ridge directed tropical moisture onto Queensland’s tropical eastern coast, bringing moderate rainfall.

50mm and 100mm: Areas of western and northern Tasmania, isolated spots in Victoria’s alpine region, and the tropical east coast in Queensland. The highest weekly total was 149 mm at Mount Read in Tasmania’s west coast.

10mm and 50mm: Coastal southwest Western Australia, South Australia’s southeast, much of the southern and alpine regions in Victoria, and much of Tasmania. Similar amounts of rainfall was also recorded in Queensland’s northern Cape York Peninsula, along the northern coastal parts, and in the south of Queensland.

Little to no rain: The Northern Territory, most of Western Australia and South Australia, much of New South Wales and western Queensland recorded little or no rainfall this week.
