Rain was received across most areas of Australia in the past week, with only parts of western and southern Western Australia, and western and central Queensland recording little or no rainfall.

Past seven days: At the beginning of the week, showers and thunderstorms formed over the Kimberley, the northern half of the Northern Territory and Cape York Peninsula due to a warm and humid northerly flow. A deepening trough along the west coast of Western Australia produced showers with moderate to heavy falls recorded in the Pilbara, central interior and parts of the Gascoyne.

In the middle of the week, another surface trough extended from the Pilbara in Western Australia, through central South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria, with a deepening low pressure centre over central South Australia. Moderate to heavy falls were recorded across the agricultural districts and southeastern area of South Australia, much of western Victoria, western New South Wales and Tasmania. As the low pressure centre tracked over southeastern Australia, moderate to heavy falls were recorded in eastern and central New South Wales, Victoria, and eastern Tasmania.

During the last part of the week, a broad area of low pressure extended from the Gascoyne, across central Australia and southern Queensland. This feature triggered shower and thunderstorms, with moderate falls reported in central parts of the Northern Territory; in western, southern and southeastern Queensland. A humid and unstable air mass produced thunderstorm activity across the Top End of the Northern Territory and Cape York Peninsula for the remainder of the week.

At the end of the week, a monsoon burst developed over the Top End, producing heavy falls recorded about the Darwin–Daly district.

Rainfall totals between 100 mm and 200 mm were recorded in the Pilbara and Kimberley districts in Western Australia; the Top End and central parts of the Northern Territory; the Cape York Peninsula and an area of Queensland’s northern interior, and in the Northeast Pastoral district of South Australia. Falls in excess of 200 mm were recorded around Telfer Airport in the eastern Pilbara, and the northeastern Kimberley; parts of the Top End, particularly around Darwin, and a small area in the Cape York Peninsula. The highest weekly rainfall total was 362 mm at Gunn Point in the Northern Territory.

Rainfall totals between 50 mm and 100 mm were recorded across much of the Kimberley, the Pilbara, Gascoyne and central interior districts of Western Australia; across central and northern parts of the Northern Territory; much of the northern and western Cape York Peninsula extending into parts of the Gulf Country, and parts of western and southern Queensland. Similar totals were recorded in a small area of northeastern New South Wales, the Northeast Pastoral district and the Lower Eyre Peninsula of South Australia, and in western and northeastern Tasmania.

Rainfall totals between 10 mm and 50 mm were recorded in remaining parts of the Kimberley, Pilbara, central and eastern Gascoyne, central interior and southeast coast of Western Australia; most of the Northern Territory except the southeast; much of South Australia except the far west and along the central southern coast, and Tasmania. Similar totals were recorded across much of Victoria apart from East Gippsland; New South Wales except the southeast coast, and much of Queensland except the Central Highlands, Capricornia and western Queensland.
