Showers and thunderstorms delivered rain across a large footprint of the continent stretching from the Kimberley district in northern Western to northern and eastern NSW and Eastern Victoria over the past week. Totals exceeded 50mm in several reas, with Moruya in NSW’s southern coast registering the highest weekly total of 332mm.

At the beginning of the week, a broad area of low pressure over northern Australia and a surface trough located through inland Queensland and northern New South Wales generated moderate rainfall totals in the Gulf Country, the Top End and parts of western Queensland, with light falls in eastern New South Wales. A low pressure system near Port Lincoln in South Australia and an associated trough extended through to southern parts of the Northern Territory and generated light to moderate rainfall totals in parts of eastern and coastal South Australia.

Areas of low pressure deepened over southeastern New South Wales, producing moderate rainfall totals for large areas of New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, and an area in Queensland’s southern interior.

Showers and thunderstorms formed throughout the week across the Gulf Country, the Northern Territory and north Kimberley district in Western Australia due to a moist, onshore northwest to northeast airflow into northern Australia.

A broad area of low pressure persisted through the Queensland interior and northeastern New South Wales, before a surface low developed off the New South Wales south coast in the last part of the week. Moderate rainfall totals were recorded across parts of northern, central and southeastern Queensland, northern and eastern New South Wales and eastern Victoria. Heavier falls were recorded along the south coast of New South Wales and across West Gippsland in Victoria as the system moved offshore.

Rainfall totals in excess of 50 mm were recorded across parts of the Top End, Gulf Country, north and southeast Queensland, eastern New South Wales and Victoria. Isolated totals exceeding 100 mm were recorded in areas of the New South Wales south coast, West Gippsland in Victoria, central Queensland and in the Darwin-Daly district in the Northern Territory.

Rainfall totals between 15 mm and 50 mm were recorded in parts of the Kimberley district in Western Australia; in areas surrounding higher falls in the northern half of the Northern Territory and to the north of Alice Springs; in large parts of Queensland except in the far southwest, and locations in the central west and north; northern, central and eastern New South Wales; the eastern half of Victoria; a small area of northeastern South Australia; and in northern and southeast Tasmania.

Nearly all of Western Australia except the far northeast, remaining parts of South Australia and bordering inland Northern Territory, areas of southwest Queensland and western New South Wales and northwestern Victoria recorded little or no rainfall for the week.
