It was another small store sale again this week with most cattle drawn from the usual south west supply areas.

Good quality steers and heifers continued to sell well, but restocker and feedlot buyers were more selective when purchasing plainer cattle.

Light weight yearling steers hit 436c and light weight yearling heifers topped at 398c/kg. Steer calves sold to 436c and averaged 424c/kg. Light weight yearling steers topped at 436c and ranged between 394c and 418c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 394c and averaged 368c, while those returning to the paddock reached 406c and averaged 386c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed hit 368c and averaged 359c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers sold to 398c and ranged between 326c and 389c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed reached 363c and averaged 340c, while plainer sorts averaged 290c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 360c and averaged 339c/kg. Grown steers to feed sold between 302c and 346c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows earned to 258c and averaged 247c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows hit 275c and averaged 254c/kg.

Roma light steers top 436c/kg

A total of 2769 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 436c/kg and averaged 425c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 426c/kg and averaged 409c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 412c/kg and averaged 376c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 394c/kg and averaged 365c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 368c/kg and averaging 347c/kg.

J Cross, Quandong, Dirranbandi, sold Angus-cross steers to 436c/kg for 200kg to return $874/head. The Angus heifers sold to 398c for 200kg to return $799.

M & K Hudson, Tongy, Mitchell, sold Cross bred steers to 426c for 229kg to return $978. The Cross bred heifers sold to 396c for 202kg to return $801.

Grab Pastoral Co, Idaho, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 420c for 248kg to return $1043.

Bruce Walker, The Farm, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 408c for 312kg to return $1276.

J & K Bock, Kilto, Wandoan, sold Cross bred steers to 392c for 329kg to return $1291.

Sutton Beef, Bundabar, Glenmorgan, sold Santa-cross steers to 386c for 302kg to return $1169.

Crocker Farming Co, Crochdantigh, Muckadilla, sold Simmental-cross steers to 368c for 438kg to return $1613.

M & C Redgen, The Rockie, Roma, sold Red Angus-cross steers to 366c for 390kg to return $1428.

J & S Nichol, Ridgewell, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 362c for 368kg to return $1334.

The Hartley family, Bowen Downs, Aramac, sold Charbray-cross steers to 357c for 454kg to return $1624.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 364c/kg and averaged 331c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 372c/kg and averaged 342c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 394c/kg and averaged 366c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 398c/kg and averaged 384c/kg.

Bangor Cattle Co, Bangor, Mungallala, sold Charbray heifers to 370c for 310kg to return $1148.

D & C McInnerney, Combarngo, Yuleba, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 346c for 412kg to return $1426.

T & S Pukallus, Warrabinda, Roma, sold Cross bred heifers to 323c for 411kg to return $1329.

Cows over 500kg sold to 253/kg and averaged 248c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 260c/kg and averaged 241c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 246c/kg and averaged 231c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $1640/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 420c/kg and averaged 357c/kg.
