Yarding 3150 Change -3850

After good rainfall across parts of south west Queensland, yarding numbers fell by 55%.

Prices remained firm to dearer across most classes, as cattle supply shortened due to the restricted movement of livestock. Light weight yearling steers gained 11c and light weight yearling heifers lifted 12c to 22c/kg. Competition remained strong between feedlot buyers and a line of Santa cows with 3 month old calves topped at $1,425/unit.

Steer calves sold to 364c and averaged 360c, down 1c, while heifer calves topped at 312c and averaged 296c, up 6c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to 364c and most ranged between 328c and 350c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed earned to 358c and averaged 320c, while those returning to the paddock hit 340c and averaged 322c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached 320c and averaged 314c, up 12c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers made to 316c and averaged between 270c and 311c/kg depending on quality. A small sample of medium weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 306c, while heavy weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 304c and averaged 294c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows topped at 215c and averaged 203c and medium weight 3 score cows made to 235c and averaged 227c/kg.

A total of 3150 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 364c/kg and averaged 353c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 363c/kg and averaged 345c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 350c/kg and averaged 332c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 336c/kg and averaged 317c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 320c/kg and averaging 312c/kg.

Sue Kneebone, Tchanning, Jackson, sold Charolais-cross steers to 364c/kg for 212kg to return $772/head. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 316c for 285kg to return $901.

Rolf Park North, Narra Barra, Cunnumalla, sold Braford steers to 364c for 152kg to return $553.

Golden Pastoral Holdings, Nullin, Yuleba, sold Cross bred steers to 362c for 242kg to return $876.

A & S Smith, Openbah, St George, sold Simmental-cross steers to 359c for 252kg to return $907.

Barry & Doreen Cooke, Turana, Meandarra, sold Simmental-cross steers to 349c for 285kg to return $995.

Doce, Lagoon, Wallumbilla, sold Droughtmaster steers to 320c for 440kg to return $1408.

Echo Hills Cattle Partnership, Echo Hills, Wallumbilla, sold Droughtmaster steers to 318c for 442kg to return $1406.

Rewan Cattle Co, Rewan, Rolleston, sold Droughtmaster steers to 318c for 408kg to return $1301.

Cattle Trax, Chesneys, Injune, sold Cross bred steers to 293c for 565kg to return $1656.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 306c/kg and averaged 284c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 316c/kg and averaged 298c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 315c/kg and averaged 297c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 316c/kg and averaged 306c/kg.

Sylvester Pastoral Co, Arcadia Station, Injune, sold Angus-cross heifers to 315c for 322kg to return $1014.

Dalmally Grazing Co, Dalmally, Roma, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 312c for 262kg to return $817.

Cows over 500kg sold to 243c/kg and averaged 232c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 245c/kg and averaged 213c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 215c/kg and averaged 186c/kg.

Santa-cross cows with 3 to 6-month-old calves at foot sold to $1425/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 336c/kg and averaged 293c/kg.
