James Nason, 29/10/2014

Roma Store Sale NLRS market report commentary:

Yarding 5808, Change -992

Hot and dry weather conditions prevailed across the local supply area. Restocker buyer attendance was limited compared to the previous store sale and top quality light weight yearling steers sold well, but most fell 4c/kg on average. Reduced feedlot buyer competition resulted in feeder buyers being more selective when purchasing, and prices dropped 5c/kg. The strong prices for heavy weight yearling steers to feed came off the boil and were 11c/kg cheaper on average. The quality of light and medium weight heifers was mixed and followed a similar price trend to the previous sale. Cows and calves sold to $860, while most sold between $430 and $490/unit.

Light weight yearling steers sold to 212c and averaged 195c, down 4c, while plainer sorts sold to 179c and averaged 169c, up 2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 209c and averaged 196c, down 5c, and those returning to the paddock reached 206c and averaged 200c, down 13c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 206c and averaged 194c, down 11c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 182c and averaged 170c, up 6c, while those to processors hit 174c and averaged 156c, up 3c/kg. Those sold to restocker buyers made to 180c and averaged 168c, up 2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 184c and averaged 177c, up 11c/kg.
