NLRS sale commentary:

Yarding 6911 Change -495

Yarding numbers remained similar to the previous sale. A mix of fair to good quality steers were consigned, while an increased number of good quality heifers were penned. Extra restocker buyers were in attendance and all the usual feedlot buyers were operating. Prices improved for most classes of steers and heifers. Light weight yearling steers hit 296c and averaged 260c, up 9c, while slightly heavier sorts topped at 266c and averaged 239c/kg. Feedlot buyers were active on suitable medium weight yearling steers which sold to 282c and averaged 246c, up 8c/kg. Restockers paid up to 266c and averaged 256c, up 13c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 258c and averaged 249c, up 15c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feed reached 236c and averaged between 219c and 227c/kg for good quality sorts. Those returning to the paddock hit 242c and averaged 226c, up 17c/kg. Those to processors sold to 224c and averaged 195c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 236c and averaged 220c, up 16c/kg. Good quality lines to processors reached 230c and averaged 215c, up 8c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 230c and averaged 221c, up 7c/kg. Grown steers to feed sold to 216c and averaged between 196c and 207c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows reached 191c and averaged 182c, while medium weight 4 score cows hit 215c and averaged 198c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows topped at 215c and averaged 209c/kg. Cows and calves sold to $1,000/unit.

Roma light steers hit 296c/kg

A total of 6911 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 296c/kg and averaged 263c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 288c/kg and averaged 246c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 278c/kg and averaged 244c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 282c/kg and averaged 238c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 258c/kg and averaging 237c/kg.

Stagmount Grazing Co, Stagmount, Aramac, sold Santa steers to 296c/kg for 209kg to return $620/head. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 237kg to return 192kg to return $456.

P & D Pidgeon, Glenroy, sold Santa-cross steers to 286c for 188kg to return $538. The Santa heifers sold to 234c for 300kg to return $702.

JS Grazing, Double J, Injune, sold Angus steers to 282c for 354kg to return $1000.

K Sharpe & D Jones, Wardilla, Charleville, sold Santa steers to 278c for 305kg to return $850.

R & J Copeland, Knockbine, Taroom, sold Angus-cross steers to 272c for 243kg to return $661. The Angus-cross heifers sold to 226c for 219kg to return $496.

J & S Nichols, Ridgewell, Roma, sold Angus steers to 266c for 337kg to return $897.

Wansey Downs Grazing, Wansey Downs, Augathella, sold Hereford steers to 264c for 307kg to return $813.

China State Farms, Noella Station, Charleville, sold Charolais-cross steers to 264c for 296kg to return $782. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 224c for 257kg to return $576.

Les Baker, Yarrawonga, Charleville, sold Charolais-cross steers to 258c for 418kg to return $1078. The Droughtmaster heifers sold to 230c for 333kg to return $767.

Craig Bischoff, Woodlawn, Injune, sold Angus steers to 258c for 410kg to return $1058.

Lyndale Grazing Co, Lyndale, Roma, sold Simbrah steers to 258c for 415kg to return $1073.

BA Downs Pastoral, BA Downs, Mitchell, sold Angus-cross steers to 258c for 275kg to return $710. The Angus-cross heifers sold to 226c for 328kg to return $741.

A & D Alexander & Sons, Willoughby, Barcaldine, sold Shorthorn steers to 256c for 324kg to return $831.

W & C Whatmore, Boatman, Morven, sold Droughtmaster steers to 252c for 303kg to return $764.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 234c/kg and averaged 212c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 242c/kg and averaged 210c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 240c/kg and averaged 214c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 237c/kg and averaged 209c/kg.

Andromeda Cattle Co, Eddington, Mungallala, sold Cross bred heifers to 236c for 285kg to return $673.

Peel Mungerie, Inverness, Blackall, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 232c for 247kg to return $574.

L & H McKay, Cynthia Downs, St George, sold a Santa heifer to 230c for 402kg to return $927.

Melinda Downs, Cloncurry, sold Droughtmaster heifers to 228c for 223kg to return $509.

Bangor Cattle, Bangor, Mungallala, sold Droughtmaster-cross heifers to 224c for 384kg to return $862.

Lord & Easton Grazing, Whinmoor, Julia Creek, sold Santa heifers to 226c for 273kg to return $618.

P & B Andrews, Blue Hills, Roma, sold Santa-cross heifers to 214c for 261kg to return $559.

Cows over 500kg sold to 215c/kg and averaged 195c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 215c/kg and averaged 176c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 186c/kg and averaged 160c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $1000/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 228c/kg and average 187c/kg.
