NLRS market commentary

Yarding 7400 Change 2825

There was a large lift in supply and cattle were drawn from a very wide area, with some consignments from Alice Springs also included in the line-up. The usual exporters and feeder operators were in attendance, along with some extra restocker buyers. Feeder operators and restockers were able to absorb the larger numbers plus lift prices by a further 6c to 10c and up to 20c/kg on yearling steers to feed for the domestic market. Yearling heifers also received very strong support from feeder operators and restockers. Despite the larger yarding of cows all classes experienced strong demand from exporters and restockers.

Steer calves returned to the paddock at 390.2c to average 359c while a fair number of heifer calves sold to interstate restockers at 386.2c/kg. Light yearling steers returning to the paddock were well supplied and made to 388.2c to average 8c dearer at 361c/kg. Medium weights to feed mostly sold around 342c while some better lines made to 362.2c to average 350c/kg. Heavy weights to feed made to 329.2c, with a fair sample around 325c/kg. The large supply of light yearling heifers made to 336.2c, with most around 313c/kg. Medium weights to feed averaged 318c and made to 325.2c/kg. Medium weight grown steers to feed mostly sold around 310c to 313c with sales to 316.2c/kg.

Light weight plain condition cows sold to restockers at 188c, with sales to 202.2c while some better medium weights made to 214.2c/kg. Medium weight 2 scores to processors averaged 218c and the 3 scores returned 239c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 261.2c to average close to 259c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 285.2c/kg.
