This year’s best quality line up of store cattle was penned this week. The well-conditioned yearling steers and heifers attracted strong feedlot and restocker buyer competition.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feedlot buyers hit 336c, while light weight yearling steers topped at 376c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers held firm in price and light weight yearling heifers returned to the paddock at a top of 302c/kg. A full panel of export processors were active on the cows.

Light weight yearling steers sold to 376c and mostly sold between 312c and 332c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers reached 310c and averaged 298c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers topped at 336c and averaged 303c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers earned to 302c and mostly sold between 278c and 286c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 296c and averaged 276c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 282c and averaged 279c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to 232c and averaged 221c, up 7c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows made to 242c and averaged 238c, up 7c/kg.

Roma heavy feeder steers top 336c/kg

A total of 7100 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 376c/kg and averaged 335c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 358c/kg and averaged 310c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 340c/kg and averaged 309c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 336c/kg and averaged 299c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 336c/kg and averaging 292c/kg.

Kevin Bredhauer, Rosevale, Wyandra, sold Charolais-cross steers to 376c/kg for 218kg to return $822/head. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 306c for 188kg to return $576.

G & L Proud, Woodstock, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 354c for 219kg to return $776.

John Russell, Culbara, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 340c for 300kg to return $1021. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 300c for 290kg to return $872.

Maller Pastoral Co, Waverley, Wallumbilla, sold Santa-cross steers to 340c for 246kg to return $837. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 298c for 350kg to return $1043.

JS Grazing, Double J, Injune, sold Angus-cross steers to 336c for 416kg to return $1400.

Allan Pastoral Co, Oakvale, Mitchell, sold Brangus steers to 334c for 289kg to return $966.

E & C Rolfe, Nindinna, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 330c for 311kg to return $1027. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 290c for 353kg to return $1026.

R & E Lister, Trevallen, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 330c for 246kg to return $814.

Sesbania Livestock Trust, Sesbania, Winton, sold Droughtmaster steers to 324c for 252kg to return $819. The Droughtmaster heifers sold to 285c for 307kg to return $878.

Herbert Bruggemann, Wonglea, Taroom, sold Angus-cross steers to 310c for 302kg to return $937.

L & S Hanna, Terrarara, Mitchell, sold Santa steers to 308c for 340kg to return $1048. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 272c for 361kg to return $984.

Onley & Co, Bulala, Roma, sold Romagnola steers to 306c for 429kg to return $1313.

G & B Nimmo, New Merivale, Injune, sold Charolais-cross steers to 301c for 393kg to return $1185.

Bundoran Partnership, Bundorna, Richmond, sold Angus steers to 300c for 475kg to return $1428.

Earle Grazing, Austral Park, Injune, sold Santa-cross steers to 300c for 411kg to return $1236.

S & T Bond, Borromoore, Roma, sold Simmental-cross steers to 298c for 456kg to return $1361.

Formosa Farming Co, Formosa Downs, Surat, sold Charolais-cross steers to 286c for 525kg to return $1503. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 282c for 441kg to return $1246.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 296c/kg and averaged 267c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 300c/kg and averaged 271c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 300c/kg and averaged 273c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 306c/kg and averaged 275c/kg.

Toni Roberts, Tantatton, Wallumbilla, sold Blonde D’Aquitaine heifers to 296c for 366kg to return $1085.

Noel York & Sons, Yorkaringa, Wallumbilla, sold Hereford heifers to 294c for 325kg to return $956.

Cows over 500kg sold to 241c/kg and averaged 223c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 242c/kg and averaged 208c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 220c/kg and averaged 179c/kg.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 305c/kg and averaged 263c/kg.
