NLRS weekly Roma Sale commentary:

Yarding 6100, Change 200

Yardings remained similar to the previous week. It was a mixed quality yarding of cattle with good lines of local sorts and plainer consignments from northern Queensland. There was one large consignment of cattle from northern NSW. Good yearling steers and heifers held firm in price, while averages declined across most classes of cattle due to the quality offered. Light weight yearling steers sold to 204c and averaged 186c, down 2c, while D muscled sorts averaged 148c, down 9c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed reached 176c and averaged 172c, up 1c, while plainer lines averaged 155c, down 4c/kg. Those returning to the paddock hit 196c and averaged 177c, down 3c, and D muscled sorts averaged 148c, down 2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold between 173c and averaged 177c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feed reached 162c and averaged 148c, unchanged in price, while those to restocker buyers earned to 158c and averaged 137c, down 2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 168c and averaged 149c, down 1c/kg. A few grown steers to feed sold to 140c/kg.e D muscled sorts averaged 148c, down 9c/kg.

Weekly Roma Store Sale Press Report

A total of 6100 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 192c/kg and averaged 152c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 200c/kg and averaged 166c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 204c/kg and averaged 159c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 182c/kg and averaged 153c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 177c/kg and averaging 156c/kg.

B & D Cooke, Turana, Meandarra, sold Simbrah steers to 204c/kg for 292kg to return $597/head.

Glentulloch Grazing Co, Glentulloch, Injune, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 194c for 302kg to return $586. The Droughtmaster-cross heifers sold to 168c for 329kg to return $554.

J Ford, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 191c/kg for 318kg to return $609/head.

V, K, & A Hafemeister, Oakleigh, Injune, sold Angus-cross steers to 191c for 210kg to return $402.

Cameron Fraser Grazing, Culburnie, Barcaldine, sold Santa steers to 190c for 272kg to return $520.

M & S Benson, Seaside, Yuleba, sold Charolais-cross steers to 186c for 339kg to return $631. The Charolais-cross heifers to 144c for 332kg to return $479.

D & G East, Wyora, Winton, sold Charolais steers to 183c for 266kg to return $487. The Charolais heifers sold to 149c for 248kg to return $370.

S & L Reiser, Tocal, Mitchell, sold Charolais steers to 182c for 363kg to return $661.

B & J O’Dell, Toarbee, Jericho, sold Limousin-cross steers to 180c for 279kg to return $502.

L & P Richards, Plainfarm, Roma, sold Santa-cross steers to 177c for 429kg to return $760.

N & N Balderson, Balonne Station, Barcaldine, sold Droughtmaster steers to 176c for 292kg to return $515. The Droughtmaster heifers to 140c for 258kg to return $361.

E & D Connolly, Tetalga, Roma, sold Santa steers to 173c for 412kg to return $713.

Chandler Grazing, Hillalong, Barcaldine, sold Charolais-cross steers to $360/head. The Droughtmaster heifers sold to 142c for 350kg to return $497.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 164c/kg and averaged 133c/kg.Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 168c/kg and averaged 139c/kg.Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 151c/kg and averaged 131c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 149c/kg and averaged 125c/kg.

Valley Downs Pastoral Co, Craig Gowan, Roma, sold Hereford heifers to 145c for 311kg to return $452.

R & S Pether, Autevil Station, Barcaldine, sold Angus-cross heifers to 140c for 346kg to return $485.

A & J Gordon, Richmond Downs, Roma, sold Angus heifers to 134c for 368kg to return $494.

Cows over 500kg sold to 124c/kg and averaged 113c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 118c/kg and averaged 97c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 91c/kg and averaged 61c/kg.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 175c/kg and average 117c/kg.
