Good numbers were penned, and store cattle were mainly drawn from the south west supply areas. Generally, store steers and heifers held firm in price, while plainer sorts were cheaper at times. The better quality 3 score cows were firm in price to 1c dearer, with cows returning to the paddock and going to processor buyers. Light weight yearling steers reached 409c and sold to a local restocker buyer, while most averaged between 344c and 380c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers hit 364c for a pen going to the paddock, while those to feed topped at 348c and averaged 336c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 326c and averaged 315c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers reached 360c and averaged between 278c and 325c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 326c and averaged 306c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 326c and averaged 315c/kg. Grown steers to feed made to 298c and averaged 288c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows reached 233c and averaged between 218c and 221c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows reached 248c and averaged 240c/kg. Droughtmaster-cross cows and 1 to 3 month old calves sold to $1640, while others averaged $1435/head.

Roma heifers top 366c/kg

A total of 4915 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 409c/kg and averaged 359c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 390c/kg and averaged 346c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 366c/kg and averaged 341c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 348c/kg and averaged 329c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 366c/kg and averaging 319c/kg.

Beco Pastoral Trust, Lennox Station, Jericho, sold Charolais-cross steers to 396c/kg for 158kg to return $628/head. The Brahman heifers sold to 330c for 158kg to return $522.

L & L Kirby, 12 Mile, St George, sold Charolais-cross steers to 392c for 203kg to return $797. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 346c for 158kg to return $547.

D & C Collinson, West Myall, Roma, sold Angus steers to 366c for 310kg to return $1135.

Scott Todd, Brigalow Downs, Bollon, sold Charolais-cross steers to 364c for 297kg to return $1083.

P & S Joliffe, Walhallow, Amby, sold Santa steers to 358c for 307kg to return $1099.

Jim Blackburn, Mt Bindango, Roma, sold Charbray steers to 358c for 284kg to return $1018. The Charbray heifers sold to 326c for 278kg to return $908.

K & R Burey, Yarara, St George, sold Santa-cross steers to 358c for 273kg to return $979. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 322c for 353kg to return $1138.

J & K Bock, Kilto, Wandoan, sold Cross bred steers to 352c for 326kg to return $1148. The Cross bred heifers sold to 326c for 336kg to return $1098.

Bullsgully Pastoral, Glencoe, Mitchell, sold Charbray steers to 350c for 328kg to return $1150.

J, L, & M Kadel, Pameroo, Roma, sold Limousin-cross steers to 343c for 376kg to return $1290. The Limousin-cross heifers sold to 306c for 340kg to return $1041.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 322c/kg and averaged 292c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 326c/kg and averaged 297c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 358c/kg and averaged 318c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 366c/kg and averaged 319c/kg.

A & E Forster, Belfield Station, Winton, sold Charbray heifers to 358c for 239kg to return $857.

Stanford Grazing, Ardlui, Roma, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 324c for 337kg to return $1093.

Ian Duff, Duffields, Roma, sold Droughtmaster-cross heifers to 320c for 367kg to return $1178.

Cows over 500kg sold to 248c/kg and averaged 229c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 240c/kg and averaged 226c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 227c/kg and averaged 196c/kg.

Large numbers of cows and calves were consigned at the sale. A pen of Droughtmaster-cross cows and 1 to 3-months-old calves made to $1,640, with most averaged $1,435/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 398c/kg and averaged 307c/kg.
