Yarding 5178 Change -3222

Yarding numbers fell 40 percent and the quality of cattle penned also declined.

Restocker buyers remained active on calves, but were more selective when purchasing light weight yearling steers. The plainer quality on offer combined with less feedlot buyers operating reduced heavy weight yearling steer prices by 13c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returned to the paddock at similar prices to the previous store sale, while medium weight 3 score cows received increased Queensland processor competition. Early weaned male sorts sold to 400c and averaged 385c, while heifer calves reached 360c and averaged 336c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers topped at 372c and averaged 350c, down 9c, while slightly heavier sorts made to 355c and averaged 331c, down 10c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 340c and averaged 312c, down 15c, and those returning to the paddock hit 345c and averaged 331c, up 5c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 316c and averaged 306c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers sold to 360c and averaged between 301c and 323c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 306c and averaged 301c, down 4c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows hit 231c and sold to a restocker buyer, while most went to processor buyers for an average of 224c, up 6c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows reached 239c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $1,620 and averaged $1,317/unit.

Roma light heifers hit 360c/kg

A total of 5178 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 376c/kg and averaged 359c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 370c/kg and averaged 335c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 370c/kg and averaged 318c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 340c/kg and averaged 302c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 316c/kg and averaging 294c/kg.

Raceview Pastoral Co, Raceview, Charleville, sold Santa-cross steers to 370c/kg for 287kg to return $1064/head. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 346c for 194kg to return $672.

B & L Warne, Billabalong, Injune, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 356c for 267kg to return $953. The Droughtmaster-cross heifers sold to 333c for 246kg to return $820.

P & C Robson, Moorang, Taroom, sold Euro steers to 356c for 217kg to return $774.

Albury Pastoral Co, Albury, Mungallala, sold Charolais-cross steers to 355c for 309kg to return $1097. The Charolais heifers sold to 328c for 246kg to return $810.

Ray Pastoral Co, Ray Station, Quilpie, sold Santa-cross steers to 352c for 232kg to return $818.

Terry Jukes, Armadilla, Morven, sold Santa steers to 348c for 294kg to return $1025.

R & J Underwood, Pine Hills, Wallumbilla, sold Droughtmaster steers to 342c for 331kg to return $1134.

R & K Thorne, Homeleigh, Mitchell, sold Santa-cross steers to 324c for 313kg to return $1016. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 316c for 303kg to return $959.

R, M, & F Miller, North Kooringa, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 315c for 415kg to return $1307.

Murphy Grazing Trust, Mossvale, Yuleba, sold Charolais steers to 315c for 391kg to return $1234.

W & M Jones, Norolle Downs, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 312c for 454kg to return $1417.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 306c/kg and averaged 280c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 317c/kg and averaged 285c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 338c/kg and averaged 309c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 360c/kg and averaged 330c/kg.

The Nowland family, Boondoon, Charleville, sold Santa heifers to 360c for 205kg to return $738.

Pensini Grazing, Cameron Downs, Hughenden, sold Charolais heifers to 358c for 202kg to return $726.

R & J Copeland, Knockbine, Taroom, sold Angus-cross heifers to 350c for 216kg to return $757.

L & M Ridge, Lesmar, Roma, sold Angus heifers to 316c for 299kg to return $946. Cows over 500kg sold to 239c/kg and averaged 230c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 241c/kg and averaged 216c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 230c/kg and averaged 192c/kg.

J Holzwart, Pebbly Creek, St George, sold Charolais-cross cows and calves to $1620 and across the board cows and calves averaged $1317/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 400c/kg and averaged 298c/kg.
