Roma Store 22 July 2014: EU steers to 206c

Beef Central, 23/07/2014

NLRS Roma Store Sale commentary:

Yarding 7908, Change 908

Good numbers of mixed quality cattle were once again yarded. Extra restocker buyers were in attendance at the sale, while feedlot buyers were more selective when purchasing suitable heavy feeder steers. Reasonable restocker activity put a floor in light weight yearling steer prices, while heavy weight yearling and grown steers to feed were slightly cheaper. Light store cows were in solid demand by restockers and improved up to 23c/kg on average.

Light weight yearling steers sold to 206c and averaged 186c, up 3c, while plainer sorts averaged 149c, up 1c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 186c and averaged 180c, down 1c, while those to restockers topped at 190c and averaged 178c, up 1c/kg. The D muscled lines averaged 163c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed hit 192c and averaged 186c, down 5c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 169c and averaged 140c, up 18c, while those to southern processors sold to 132c and averaged 126c, down 3c/kg. The light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock made to 158c and averaged 134c, down 4c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed reached 162c and averaged 148c, unchanged in price. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 168c and averaged 165c, up 5c/kg.

Medium weight grown steers to feed sold to 176c and averaged 164c, while heavy weight grown steers to feed topped at 167c and averaged 161c/kg. Light weight store cows hit 104c and averaged between 84c and 93c/kg.
