Good numbers were penned again this week, with most cattle drawn from south west Queensland.

Extra NSW restocker buyer competition boosted light weight yearling steers to a record 432c/kg. Feedlot buyers were determined to secure suitable store cattle, while strong restocker competition to put cattle onto oats crops combined to lift medium and heavy weight yearling steers prices by 14c to 20c/kg.

Despite the mixed quality of the yarding, all classes of yearling heifers attracted solid feedlot and restocker buyer demand.

Charolais cows and calves hit a record $2,450/unit. Light early weaned steers sold to 424c and averaged 412c, while heifer calves sold to 384c and averaged 362c/kg. Light weight yearling steers hit 432c and mostly ranged between 392c and 416c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 372c and averaged 361c, while those going onto oats crops earned to 388c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers sold to 380c and averaged 368c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers made to 384c and ranged mainly between 286c and 371c/kg depending on quality. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed reached 384c and averaged 356c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers hit 358c and averaged 327c/kg.

Charolais cows, station PTIC, made to 279c, while 3 score cows mostly sold between 249c and 264c/kg. Cows and calves averaged $1,388/unit.
