Roma Store 19 July 2016: Yarding shrinks with rain

Yarding numbers declined dramatically after widespread rainfall across Queensland. Only small numbers of cattle were able to be transported to the sale.

The quality on offer was plainer than the previous week. Light weight yearling steers hit 402c, while good Santa Gertrudis light weight yearling heifers earned to 346c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to 402c and averaged between 360c and 381c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed hit 340c and averaged 338c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached 349c and averaged 337c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returned to the paddock at 346c and averaged 327c, while those to feedlot buyers made to 346c and averaged 327c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 334c and averaged 314c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 315c and averaged 297c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows earned to 269c and averaged 261c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows made to 279c and averaged 275c/kg. Cows and calves sold to $1,630/unit.

Roma light steers top 402c/kg

A total of 1374 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 380c/kg and averaged 372c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 402c/kg and averaged 378c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 382c/kg and averaged 359c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 369c/kg and averaged 330c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 349c/kg and averaging 327c/kg.

K & K Thorne, Homeleigh, Mitchell, sold Santa-cross steers to 402c/kg for 238kg to return $958/head. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 336c for 241kg to return $813.

Begonia Pastoral, Begonia Station, St George, sold Charolais-cross steers to 382c for 284kg to return $1083. The Charbray-cross heifers sold to 332c for 265kg to return $881.

A & S Smith, Openbah, Dirranbandi, sold Simmental-cross steers to 380c for 297kg to return $1129. The Simmental-cross heifers to 346c for 290kg to return $1003.

D & C Perkins, Glen Eric, Chinchilla, sold Charolais steers to 370c for 215kg to return $799.

Lunar Pastoral Company, Weellah, St George, sold Charbay-cross steers to 360c for 319kg to return $1149.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 346c/kg and averaged 293c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 346c/kg and averaged 311c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 346c/kg and averaged 334c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 336c/kg and averaged 321c/kg.

Brad Howe, Aberdeen, Yuleba, sold Santa heifers 346c for 356kg to return $1235.

L & H McKay, Cynthia Downs, St George, sold Santa heifers to 346c for 287kg to return $994.

Cows over 500kg sold to 279c/kg and averaged 271c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 277c/kg and averaged 255c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 260c/kg and averaged 212c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $1630/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 364c/kg and averaged 326c/kg.
