Below average numbers of cattle were yarded for the final sale of the year. Rainfall across parts of the supply areas held some cattle back from the market, meanwhile, increased numbers of restocker buyers attended the sale. Light weight yearling steers jumped 16c and feedlot buyers were very active on suitable medium weight yearling steers to the trade market. All light weight yearling heifers lifted in price 9c to 18c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feeders increased 12c/kg on average.

Light weight yearling steers reached 250c and averaged 227c, while a good pen of light weight steer calves hit 272c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 238c and averaged 226c, up 5c, while heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 233c and averaged 220c, down 4c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot buyers sold to 218c and averaged 204c, up 18c, while those to processors hit 206c and averaged 182c, up 9c/kg. Those returning to the paddock made to 224c and averaged 206c, up 16c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed reached 207c and averaged 193c, up 12c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed topped at 197c and averaged 190c, up 30c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows sold to 175c/kg.

Roma light steers hit 272c/kg

A total of 3860 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 272c/kg and averaged 221c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 250c/kg and averaged 223c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 242c/kg and averaged 225c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 234c/kg and averaged 227c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 233c/kg and averaging 213c/kg.

W & K Freeman, Meeleebee Downs, Wallumbilla, sold Angus-cross steers to 272c/kg for 167kg to return $457/head.

Gumvale Pastoral Co, Gumvale, Tibooburra, sold Santa steers to 248c for 260kg to return $647.

J & S Nichol, Ridgewell, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 238c for 215kg to return $513.

Lyndale Grazing, Lyndale, Roma, sold Charbray-cross steers to 235c for 336kg to return $790.

Jim Ford, Roma, sold Santa-cross steers to 234c for 382kg to return $895. The Angus-cross heifers sold to 217c for 315kg to return $684.

Jan Molloy, Whyjonta Station, Tibooburra, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 234c for 250kg to return $586.

Currawilla Pastoral Co, Currawilla, Windorah, sold Charolais steers to 233c for 424kg to return $988.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 195c/kg and averaged 180c/kg.Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 226c/kg and averaged 204c/kg.Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 222c/kg and averaged 197c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 218c/kg and averaged 192c/kg.

A & A Finch, Trafford Park, Wallumbilla, sold Santa-cross heifers to 220c for 298kg to return $656.

G & K Ladbrook, Bulah, Yuleba, sold Brangus-cross heifers to 218c for 234kg to return $512.

Cows over 500kg sold to 178c/kg and averaged 173c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 178c/kg and averaged 162c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 170c/kg and averaged 147c/kg.

Dangarfield Cattle Co, Dangarfield, Taroom, sold Santa cows to 172c for 574kg to return $988.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 225c/kg and average 198c/kg.
