Andrew & Madonna Douglas, Springfield, Mitchell, sold their steers through Elders’ David Phillips, Mitchell. Their Droughtmaster steers reached 334c/kg for 276kg to return $922/head at Tuesday’s Roma Store Sale.

An even mix of plain and very good quality cattle were penned. The usual feedlot buyers continued to display solid demand, while restocker buyer competition for heifers increased. Yarding numbers were steady compared to the previous sale. Very light steers reached 368c/kg, while a local feedlot operator was determined to secure suitable medium weight yearling heifers. Mixed aged Brangus cows with 4 month old calves hit $1,530, while most other cows and calves were Charbray and Brahman sorts with 1 to 2 month old calves and averaged $992/unit.

Very light steers sold to 368c and averaged 341c/kg. Good heifer calves reached 322c and averaged 303c/kg. Light weight yearling steers earned to 346c and average 324c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 335c and averaged 319c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 332c and averaged 319c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock sold to 321c and averaged between 286c and 297c/kg. Those to processors made to 299c and averaged 283c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 321c and averaged 297c/kg.

Grown steers to feed sold to 302c and averaged between 282c and 291c/kg. Store cows to restockers reached 238c and averaged between 197c and 231c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows reached 244c and averaged 228c/kg.

Roma cows and calves hit $1530/unit

A total of 7249 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 368c/kg and averaged 322c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 346c/kg and averaged 315c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 380c/kg and averaged 307c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 335c/kg and averaged 301c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 332c/kg and averaging 307c/kg.

Clarke Bros & Tait, Hobartville, Alpha, sold Santa steers to 368c/kg for 147kg to return $543/head.

Glen Valley Pastoral Co, Glen Valley, Jundah, sold Santa steers to 346c for 246kg to return $853.

Elrose Family Trust, Elrose Station, Boulia, sold Charbray steers to 344c for 245kg to return $843.

Ogg & Co, Ayrshire Downs, Winton, sold Santa-cross steers to 344c for 221kg to return $762. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 319c for 149kg to return $477.

Seawright Investments, Reben Downs, Injune, sold Charolais-cross steers to 342c for 193kg to return $663. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 302c for 191kg to return $579.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 320c/kg and averaged 285c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 321c/kg and averaged 271c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 318c/kg and averaged 273c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 322c/kg and averaged 282c/kg.

The Taylor family, Marjundale, Injune, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 316c for 372kg to return $1178.

Samari Grazing Co, Samari Plains, Roma, sold Charbray heifers to 310c for 383kg to return $1188.

Paul Mullins, Lagaven, Julia Creek, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 310c for 328kg to return $1017.

Maranda Pastoral Co, Maranda, Barcaldine, sold Droughtmaster heifers to 284c for 199kg to return $566.

Cows over 500kg sold to 268c/kg and averaged 260c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 266c/kg and averaged 236c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 247c/kg and averaged 206c/kg.

Mixed aged Brangus cows with 4-month-old calves hit $1530/unit, while most other cows and calves were Charbray and Brahman sorts with 1 to 2-month-old calves and averaged $992.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 316c/kg and average 245c/kg.
