Yarding 5027 Change -1970

The number of cattle yarded declined 30 percent on the previous store sale. It was a very mixed quality yarding, with generally good quality lines drawn from western parts of the state and plainer northern cattle were also penned. Restocker buyer attendance at the sale was limited, but good quality light weight yearling steers continued to sell to firm market prices. Demand remained very strong for medium and heavy weight feeder steers and heifers. Light weight yearling heifers to backgrounders and feeders experience a 5c/kg lift in price on average. Cows and calves sold to $750/unit.

Light weight yearling steers hit 222c and averaged 207c, down 1c, while plainer lines made to 177c and averaged 166c, down 8c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed earned to 226c and averaged 212c, up 7c, while those returning to the paddock topped at 200c and averaged 193c, down 13c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 223c and averaged 218c, up 7c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot buyers made to 188c and averaged 171c, up 5c, while those to processors made to 180c and averaged 166c, down 7c/kg. Those to restocker buyers made to 186c and averaged 178c, down 1c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed reached 185c and averaged 170c, down 3c, while those to processors hit 172c and averaged 164c, up 3c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed hit 194c and averaged 191c, up 17c/kg.

A few grown steers to feed sold around 184c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to 175c and averaged 149c, up 2c, while heavy weight 4 score cows made to 188c and averaged 187c/kg, unchanged in price.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 217c/kg and averaged 203c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 220c/kg and averaged 193c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 226c/kg and averaged 201c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 225c/kg and averaged 204c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 223c/kg and averaging 212c/kg.

Cross & Co, Carranya, Windorah, sold Santa-cross steers to 226c/kg for 349kg to return $791/head.

Scott & Alison Todd, Brigalow Downs, Bollon, sold Charolais-cross steers to 225c for 389kg to return $876.

Bass Cattle Co, Muldoon, Mungallala, sold Santa steers to 217c/kg for 414kg to return $900/head.

Bradshaw, Luckham, Corfield, sold Charbray-cross steers to 217c for 214kg to return $464.

C & C Coomber, Jireh Park, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 216c for 360kg to return $778.

R & H Hall, Whyenbirra, Bollon, sold Santa steers to 190c for 341kg to return $647. The Santa heifers sold to 166c for 334kg to return $556.

D Elliott Investments, Mt Campbell, Winton, sold Charbray steers to 190c for 291kg to return $554. The Charbray heifers sold to 171c for 286kg to return $490.

P & M Maunder, Wilgalea, Wallumbilla, sold EU Hereford steers to 190c for 272kg to return $517.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 194c/kg and averaged 176c/kg.Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 188c/kg and averaged 166c/kg.Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 188c/kg and averaged 166c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 186c/kg and averaged 163c/kg.

Cows over 500kg sold to 188c/kg and averaged 173c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 184c/kg and averaged 150c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 178c/kg and averaged 124c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $750/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 182c/kg and average 152c/kg.
