A large increase in yarding numbers attracted extra restocker and feedlot buyers. The quality of steers and heifers were similar to the previous week with solid competition from restockers lifting prices for light weight yearling steers and heifers.

The full panel of feedlot buyers paid 6c/kg more for domestic feeder medium weight steers. Feedlot buyers were keen to secure suitable light and medium weight yearling heifers with prices increasing 22c to 26c/kg on average. Solid competition continued from export processors for good quality 4 score cows. Cows and calves sold to $950/unit and averaged $738. Light weight yearling steers sold to 272c and averaged 257c, up 14c, while slightly heavier sorts sold to 269c and averaged 251c, up 6c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed sold to 257c and averaged 240c, while those returning to the paddock topped at 260c and averaged 245c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed earned to 257c and averaged 248c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 230c and averaged between 210c and 207c/kg. Those to feedlot buyers sold to 218c and averaged 194c, while those to processors sold between 194c and 210c/kg for good quality consignments. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 234c and averaged 217c/kg. Light and medium weight 2 score cows earned to 154c and averaged between 122c and 129c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows topped at 189c and averaged 168c/kg. The medium weight 4 score cows hit 199c and averaged 196c, up 6c, while heavy weight 4 score cows made to 208c and averaged 199c, up 10c/kg.

A total of 11,053 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 272c/kg and averaged 236c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 272c/kg and averaged 248c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 268c/kg and averaged 240c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 258c/kg and averaged 239c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 254c/kg and averaging 239c/kg.

Kanari Holdings, Canary, Boulia, sold Cross bred steers to 272c/kg for 239kg to return $651/head.

R & J Tarry, Kenmore, Charleville, sold Charolais-cross steers to 270c for 232kg to return $627.

Glengraco Grazing Co, Yuleba, sold Hereford-cross steers to 268c for 284kg to return $761. The Angus-cross heifers sold to 217c for 220kg to return $479.

Omicron Pastoral Co, Omicron Station, Thargomindah, sold Angus-cross steers to 264c for 250kg to return $662.

The Taylor family, Layershire, Koorandai, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 261c for 305kg to return $798. The Angus-cross heifers sold to 212c for 262kg to return $557.

S & M Ridley, Talegar, Coonamble, sold Angus-cross steers to 260c for 337kg to return $876. The Angus heifers sold to 230c for 202kg to return $466.

Whitton Cattle Co, Myrtleville, Injune, sold Charolais steers 257c for 400kg to return $1030.

C, D, R, & M Harland, Glenolive, Injune, sold Santa-cross steers to 256c for 330kg to return $847. The Angus-cross heifers sold to 234c for 337kg to return $790.

AJ Dexter, Uralla, Meandarra, sold Charolais-cross steers to 255c for 350kg to return $893. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 205c for 314kg to return $645.

Reynella Grazing Co, Bicton, Charleville, sold Simmental-cross steers to 254c for 481kg to return $1223.

J & A Martyn, Canowindra, Roma, sold Simmental-cross steers to 253c for 470kg to return $1191.

Wondolin Pastoral Co, Wondolin, Wallumbilla, sold Angus-cross steers to 251c for 359kg to return $901.

Douglas Cattle Co, Verniew, Mitchell, sold Angus-cross steers to 248c for 361kg to return $897.

P & S Joliffe, Walhallow, Amby, sold Charolais-cross steers to 242c for 446kg to return $1081.

L & S Hanna family, Terrarara, Mitchell, sold Santa steers to 240c for 347kg to return $832. The Santa heifers sold to 220c for 326kg to return $718.

E & S Crosby, Wallam, Mitchell, sold Brahman steers to 236c for 311kg to return $736.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 230c/kg and averaged 203c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 234c/kg and averaged 199c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 222c/kg and averaged 201c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 230c/kg and averaged 208c/kg.

L & P Richards, Plainfarm, Roma, sold Santa heifers to 228c for 392kg to return $895.

Mt Rourke Pastoral Co, Karoola, Winton, sold Droughtmaster heifers to 222c for 268kg to return $595.

Ball & Co, Rothbury Park, Niela, sold Droughtmaster heifers to 222c for 222kg to return $493.

E Underwood, J Vivers, & A Turvey, Yarran Downs, Surat, sold Santa heifers to 215c for 333kg to return $716.

Cows over 500kg sold to 199c/kg and averaged 191c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 208c/kg and averaged 174c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 180c/kg and averaged 140c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $980/unit and averaged $738/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 252c/kg and average 198c/kg.
