Roma Store 12 May 2015: Light steers to 290c/kg

Weekly NLRS market comment:

Yarding 9001 Change -233

Large numbers of cattle were yarded again this week. Cattle quality varied from plain to good with consignments drawn from across western Queensland. Extra feedlot buyers were active and prices jumped 11c to 12c/kg for suitable medium and heavy weight yearling steers. Feedlot buyers were also keen to purchase light and medium weight yearling heifers. Restockers were more active on 2 and 3 score cows with good framed cows returning to the paddock and oat crops at 7c/kg dearer than the previous sale. Cows and calves sold to $940/unit.

Light weight yearling steers sold to 290c and averaged 263c, while slightly heavier sorts reached 280c and averaged 252c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock topped at 250c and averaged 226c, while those to feedlot buyers made to 236c and averaged 219c/kg. Those to processors hit 210c and averaged between 196c and 201c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed reached 280c and averaged 251c, while those to restocker buyers earned to 274c and averaged 252c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed hit 241c and averaged 214c, while a few to restockers made to 250c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 276c and averaged 263c, up 12c/kg.

The 2 score store cows reached 160c for good framed sorts and sold as low as 118c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows hit 194c and averaged 180c, while those to restockers made to 176c and averaged 174c/kg. Good heavy weight 4 score cows reached 209c and averaged 197c/kg.

Roma light steers hit 290c/kg

A total of 9001 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 290c/kg and averaged 261c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 290c/kg and averaged 247c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 287c/kg and averaged 242c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 280c/kg and averaged 247c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 276c/kg and averaging 255c/kg.

EJ Pampling, Derbyshire Downs, Augathella, sold Charolais steers to 287c/kg for 318kg to return $913/head. The Charolais heifers sold to 234c for 253kg to return $592.

Ben & Kylie Hindle, Larnook, Mungallala, sold Charolais steers to 282c for 275kg to return $776. The Angus-cross heifers sold to 236c for 396kg to return $936.

Jeff Wells, Burgoyne, Jericho, sold a Charolais steer to 280c for 360kg to return $1008.

Peel Northampton Downs, Northampton, Blackall, sold Santa-cross steers to 278c for 334kg to return $930.

Scott Martyn, Greenridge, Roma, sold Simmental-cross steers to 277c for 294kg to return $817. The Simmental-cross heifers sold to 236c for 384kg to return $907.

J & N Dingle, Belford, Injune, sold Charolais-cross steers to 276c for 475kg to return $1313.

Perrett Cattle Co, Tunis, Injune, sold Angus steers to 275c for 425kg to return $1171.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 238c/kg and averaged 208c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 244c/kg and averaged 208c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 250c/kg and averaged 192c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 250c/kg and averaged 207c/kg.

R, M, & F Miller, North Kooringa, Roma sold Angus-cross heifers to 244c for 337kg to return $823.

D & C Batt, Hillview, Muttaburra, sold Santa heifers to 244c for 213kg to return $521.

Bill & Mavis Graham, Gladfield, Roma, sold Santa-cross heifers to 238c for 375kg to return $893.

A & C Adams, Allo-Omber, Barcaldine, sold Murray Grey heifers to 234c for 291kg to return $683.

Argyle Pastoral Co, Ruthchillo, McKinlay, sold Brahman-cross heifers to 208c for 351kg to return $730.

Cows over 500kg sold to 212c/kg and averaged 195c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 200c/kg and averaged 177c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 193c/kg and averaged 158c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $940/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 246c/kg and average 200c/kg.
