The supply of stock experienced a 30 percent reduction, however, numbers still remained relatively high.

A larger number of restockers were active, plus the usual feeder and export buyers. Prices continued to reach the high levels of the previous sale, with strong support from all sections of the market with sales of over 400c/kg on a number of occasions.

The number of cows penned more than doubled the previous week’s level. Plain condition cows experienced stronger demand, with increased competition between processors and restockers with oats to feed. However the better end of the cows to slaughter struggled to maintain the high prices of the previous sale.

Steer calves to restockers made to 406.2c, with a good supply averaging 389c while heifer calves made to 364.2c, with an equally good sample averaging 342c/kg. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 407.2c in pen lots with the largest numbers averaging 378c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 376.2c, with most around 358c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed generally sold in the early 350c range, with one consignment making to 364.2c/kg.

Restockers were also very active on the light weight heifers with a few sales to 362.2c, with a large number averaging close to 335c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 329c while some better condition lines made to 360.2c to average 354c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows returning to the paddock made to 244.2c to average 237c while slaughter classes made to 232.2c, with most close to 229c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 277.2c to average 267c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 293.2c/kg. Cows and calves made to $1,400/unit.
