Producers get ‘Appy’, as cattle marketing info goes online

Jon Condon, 19/06/2014

A new smartphone app developed by Meat & Livestock Australia provides cattle producers with the latest livestock market information in one convenient location where they need it most.

The ‘MLA market information’ app enables producers to stay informed of news updates and market intelligence across the beef industry through an easy-to-use mobile format.

MLA collects and disseminates domestic and international market data relevant to the Australian livestock industry, which MLA chief economist Tim McRae said was a driving factor in the app’s creation to ensure on-farm decision makers had high calibre information available on demand.

“MLA provides reports on price indicators from 90 livestock markets, as well as market analysis services, forward projections and detailed data on international trade flows,” Mr McRae said in a prepared statement issued this morning.

“The new market information app is a valuable tool that will place all of these resources into the hands of producers. They can customise searches for market reports specific to region, detailing price, supply, and quality and buyer information,” he said.

“This app is designed for them to connect from wherever they are.”

The new app aims to tap into the increasing numbers of producers using smartphones and provide them with market information central to their day-to-day business decision-making.

“They can access a range of market statistics including national indicators, feeder cattle, slaughter levels, over-the-hooks, wholesale meat markets and read in-depth market analysis on Australia’s key livestock and export meat markets,” Mr McRae said.

  • The market information mobile app is available now to download free from the Apple iTunes App Store or Google Play, by searching for ‘MLA market information’ or visit www.mla.com.au/marketinfoapp
  • Up-to-date, comprehensive national saleyards and other NLRS primary market information is also available via Beef Central’s own smartphone app, launched two years ago. Click here for access details, and to download to your smartphone.
