Dalby sale 8 March 2017: Market firm to cheaper for smaller yarding

Yarding 4075 Change -1178

Numbers were down by 1,200 for a yarding of 4,075 head. The yarding consisted of a good supply of yearlings, with a large percentage of light yearlings and weaner cattle offered. There was a fair penning of bullocks, steers and heifers, and cows were also well supplied. Quality of the young cattle was fairly good with several runs of well-bred cattle through the sale suitable for backgrounders and feeders.

The market was firm to a cheaper trend with feeder steers selling 3c cheaper topping at 331c to average 324c/kg. Feeder heifers saw little change topping at 320c to average 306c/kg. Restocker and back ground cattle met strong demand from Southern and North Western orders as well as local areas. Light restocker yearling steers sold to a top of 382c to average 359c, while light restocker yearling heifers topped at 368c to average 339c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle was of mixed quality. Bullocks and steers sold firm to slightly easier ranging from 261c to 285c/kg. Heifers sold to a top of 284c/kg. Cows were 5c to 10c cheaper with 3 score medium weights averaging 218c and heavy cows sold to a top of 226c/kg.

 

GDL Dalby market report

A total of 4075 cattle were yarded at Dalby yesterday.

Export cattle were easier by 2-8c, weaners and lighter restocker cattle very firm.
